If, as reported, the wreck is moving about with the tides and winds, marking is difficult to accomplish.

I have had no difficulty in buying third party only insurance here in Oz. Not as cheap as in the States (~400 USD/year 10 million AUD coverage).

Perhaps different for m/v?

Well, lets consider what would have happened if they were successful in running that inlet in the fog and dark, and then T-boned a large and expensive yacht once inside, causing 100K$ in damages?

ARRESTED? WTF? How are they supposed to plug the holes and refloat the boat without diving? What law would they be breaking?

In an effort to return to cruising and get away from internet sniping, a couple of thoughts:

IMO, other than as fuel for the anti-bolt on keel crowd, I don't think it matters much if the keel came...

Had a look at the drawings... the keel design is not a terribly vulnerable one, with a deep stub keel in the hull. Should have been pretty sturdy, so I'd agree that the keel bolts were likely badly...
