To clarify; When I talked about watching ships adjust course by a very small amount this was on passage in the Caribbean sea. I had just fitted a transponder and was on passage from Aruba to Panama... |

One thing I have not seen much mention of so far is AIS. Personally I have found it one of the most useful developments of the last few decades and would put it on a par with GPS as a safety aid. Yes... |

You are missing an important point - In a constrained channel large vessels are traveling a maneuvering speed or under tow by tugs. I the open sea the same vessel may be doing 24kn. This speed... |

Why? The collregs are there to do exactly that and have been written as the standard for all mariners. If anyone has problems following them they need more training/experience. I do agree that some... |
