'Sitting behind my house' in Gympie is probably quite different to 'sitting behind my house ' in St Petersburg, Florida, especially if you are a retired doctor.

Removal of fittings in cabin to gain access, removal of keel, sandblast and epoxy etc, renew all keel bolts, replace everything, cost me NZ$4500 in 2015.( 30 year old boat).

Sad thing was old...

Which particular part of the cruising community would that be? 50% of the .001% of the cruising community that have been following this thread?

Maybe they can move on and make a highly rated movie...

Any 'mandatory' inspection of keel bolts would be driven by the insurance companies in the same way that replacement of rigging is.

Rigging over 10 years old?... sorry...

Keel bolts not...

Conflicting information or not it is always prudent to stand off an unfamiliar port until daylight.... regardless of how long you have been doing this sort of stuff for....

Interesting... in that photo it looks like a shore structure of some sort in the foreground... however their Facebook page has a photo of wreckage on the seabed..... :confused:

The blame? 100% down to them... very very young, very very unskilled , and hadn't made their first million before they turned 20.... unlike the CF members putting the boot in who it would appear to...

That photo would suggest that salvage is well under way.

Go find the keel, stick it back on , buy some new cushions.... all sorted :smile:

Upon reflection I think that was just a trick of the light.... and it is way too far aft.......

However... unless they have had heavy weather since this shot was taken she looks quite salvageable...

To me it looks like it is on the outside bend of a channel where there is a sudden 'drop off' a few feet out from the water's edge.....
