I've just been advised that my autopilot drive ( Lewmar/Whitlock Mamba drive ) is not only toast ( I knew that) but at 30 year old is seriously burnt unrepairable toast.

Two options...
sail up to Hastings ( my choice as it is within the world as we know it) or Yaringa ... and get it sorted ie buy new stuff...

Or sail home single handed .... do-able... I used to...

Its OK to leave at slack water ( start of ) ebb as long as you are abeam of Lonsdale when the ebb gets away..... and stay clear of the nasty bit I mentioned some months ago.

Correcto, however...

Flood tides are harmless.. you just need the ooomph to get out over them...

If you go out 4 fingers west you could aim to be abeam of lonsdale just after the morning...

Ships come and go at all states of the tide.

About once every 10 years or so weather may be bad enough for the pilot boat to stop working. Ships may still come ( if the master has a pilotage...

I find simple watch keeping hard for the first week or so..... after that you slip into a routine... sleep deprivation becomes the norm... but us old pharts don't need much sleep anyway.

Slack water is at 0710...Max ebb and *low water* at Lonsdale 1000 and 1036 respectively.

Nothing really bad can happen if approaching from outside during the ebb... apart from...

Memory not failing me... water level falling at Williamstown from 0725 to 1412 means water going out through entrance....water rising from 1412 to 2040 ...water coming in

That looks to me like the 0710 slack water is the start of the ebb. You would be better waiting west of the leads until 1409 and catching the start of the flood.

0300 ish is the busy time at the...

Yep ... Paso O'Ryan, Ackwalnisan ...needed an early slack water before the tide started going my way to get enough daylight on the far side to get into the next anchorage.
