I've only seen really bad conditions once but it was in the Gulf Stream so the waves were bigger and steeper than in most places. I didn't heave to but instead kept on sailing with greatly reduced...

160-165 degrees would be an extremely high limit of vanishing stability. I can’t think of any cruising yachts with LVS that high. 120-140 is a more reasonable range, but in extreme conditions which...

I think that in the situation where the crew thinks conditions are so bad that closing themselves below is necessary that fatigue and stress are a much bigger threat to make them temporarily stupid...
