In new construction that might be imagined but after that, you take what you get with hole size. |

You hope the hole has straight sides. A good whack with a hammer finishes it off by smashing the plug into shape. |

You ain't never seen the holes in my toe rail. I would need to go up to 5/8 from 1/2" to get clean edges on the holes. |

Epoxy makes it just about impossible to remove the plug one piece in the future. You end up damaging the hole in the toe rail trying to get them out again. |
