Re: Conductor size question.

The conductors for the control side of my solenoid are 10 ga. also.

I was mistaken earlier in this thread about the size of the cable from my solenoid to the windlass. It was 4 ga., not 6 ga. I...

Re: Conductor size question.

Thanks everyone for the explanations. It makes perfect sense.

What seemed strange to me is how fast this breaker trips. It doesn't even seem to give me an indication I am overloading it.
When...

Re: Conductor size question.

My 6 ga. run is about 10 feet (round trip). 10% voltage drop for up to 20 feet calls for 1 ga at 150 amps. 6 ga. at 10 % voltage drop is good to 70 amps. This is going by the chart previously posted...

Re: Conductor size question.

I am not questioning your statement just trying to understand.

I understand Watts to be "the work being done" and mathematically equals volts X amps. How does the capacity of the motor to do 1500...

Re: Conductor size question.

I used Amps = Watts/Volts

1500 watt motor at 11 Volts = 136.36 amps

This is not correct?

I will measure the voltage and current at the motor, just have not been able to yet. I do love...

Re: Conductor size question.

Even at 11 volts, that would be approx 135 amps, and it is tripping a 150 amp breaker very quickly.....

I don't know if this was a problem before as the windlass was not functional when I got...

Re: Conductor size question.

I have the same length of wire run to my windlass, 60 feet round trip. My motor is a 1500 watt and I opted for the 3/0 cable. It was a little easier to run than 4/0 and still between 3% and 10%...
