Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
Just to follow up on the progress, I have got the wheelpilot installed on the wheel and powered up (on the hard - no water testing yet). Pictures and details at post # 157 on my construction... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
Wow! You mean I will actually get to be out on my boat with a following wind? I can't wait. Wind is usually non-existent or blowing the wrong way. I am so looking forward for the wind to kick... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
I did go ahead and ordered a Raymarine. Couple of questions. Does your remote require that the fixed module remain "line of sight with the handheld unit? Can the signal shoot through glass? ... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
Thanks Eric, The "tension handle" that you speak of - is that also the "clutch" handle or is this a separate control? Also, is this a "toothed" belt or smooth? Do you keep a spare belt... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
I got no wind-sensors, not even a wind feather (just look at the water). Don't have a single electrical wire in the mast. Got to keep my life as simple as possible or I will go nuts. Some of... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
I use a dingy davit (hard dingy) exclusively. No space for wind vane even if I could justify the expense. I have sailed this boat (often single handed) for 18 years without one. Maybe I don't... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
That is good to hear. I called Raymarine and Garmin and they both said that the two units "should" work together. We'll see if "I" can make that lash-up work. When I got my current "working"... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
Hi Matt, I pulled the trigger and ordered a Raymarine ev-100 (uses the same wheel pilot has the X-5). I decided that the CPT actuator would clutter up my already cramped pilot house seating... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
Thanks funjohnson. That linear drive unit looks great. Compact, out of sight and it would be a snap to install. But the price is hurdle that has stopped me in my tracks. In fact, this whole... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
So I am thinking the Wood-Freeman is out of the running due to the physical size (large) of the components. Especially the drive motor. The X5 is starting to sound a little bit too "light duty". ... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
Anybody have any experience with this Ray-marine remote control? I built this hatch/seat for the fore deck and thought it would be cool to be able to sit up front and motor through the beautiful... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
Thanks Capt Phil, That Wood-Freeman is an interesting option. It would look especially appropriate on Panope given her new "work boat" type pilot house. I am leery of ancient electrical... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
Thanks, Dockhead Although I try and seek over sized/strength gear as a rule, in this case budget will be the determining factor. For me, this system will be a luxury item and no big deal if it... |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
I should have been clearer in the way that I described the boat in my first post. Panope is 34 feet long and displaces 7 U.S. tons. Steve |

Re: What Type/Brand Autopilot?
Thanks guys, for the recommendation for the X5. That looks like a good choice for me. Couple of questions. I see that it has a clutch for disengaging the motor. Is this clutch manual or... |

What Type/Brand Autopilot?
I know very little about marine autopilots. I am considering installing one on Panope (34' 7 tons). -Autopilot will be used primarily when motoring in somewhat protected waters (inside passage... |
