Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

It is good to hear that Coppercoat treatments are performing as anticipated for contributors “redbopeep” and “wingNwing”. Long may they continue to do so.
In response to Richard (“stillbuilding”), I...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

The best person to speak to at Sonihull would be the owner, Domonic Findlow. As mentioned, he has the combination of Coppercoat and Sonihull on his own yacht.

With Coppercoat being a rigid epoxy,...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

Interestingly the owner of NRG Marine (the manufacturer of the Sonihull ultra sonic system) uses Coppercoat on his own boat, a 50ft Hanse which, the last I heard, was in Croatia.

Here in the UK...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

To Mark - you make perfectly valid points about your experience with the copper/epoxy system you used (and indeed these comments remain valid for several other versions available a decade or two...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

To wingNwing - your Coppercoat treatment will not affect the readings of a moisture meter such as the Sovereign meter. The meter reads to a greater depth than the coatings thickness. Many (but not...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

To Roy M – please do have your neighbour contact me (info@coppercoat.com) so that I can investigate this on his behalf, as I’d love to get to the bottom of this. I see that another post mentions that...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

Hi Jim

You of course quite correct - cuprous oxide is indeed the key ingredient in maintstream anti-foul paints. But here's the thing - it's also the key anti-fouling ingredient in our Coppercoat...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

To Jim Cate - I could be misinterpreting your recent post, but you seem to be questioning the use of copper as an anti-foul. Which is a little bizarre, given that copper and its by-products such as...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

Earlier in this thread I was asked about the use of Coppercoat in fresh water. A few minutes ago my office received the following email from an old customer of ours, Mr Shearing, who has a Haines...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

Hi Skipmac - it's perfectly okay to use Coppercoat in fresh water. We don't actually see a big difference in performance when comparing fresh to salt water locations. In fact, the cleanest boats are...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

I know that Jim Edwards has been very busy at the Annapolis Boat Show, hence he's probaly not been on this forum for a while. (You may get a quicker reply from his direct e-mail, but I can't...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

Hi Fstbttms – sorry for not responding to your earlier question, which having just trawled back through the thread I have now found. It was not a deliberate snub I assure you! You may not be a fan of...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

Several points to respond to here:

To Don Lucas - if a boat is left stationary for an extended period the chances are that some slime (and possibly then other growth such as barnacles) will...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

In response to Skipmac - there have been copper/epoxy products that needed aggressive sanding from time to time to expose fresh copper, and it is fair to say that this did remove some of perceived...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

To Skipmac - a full treatment of Coppercoat is approximately 250 microns thick, reducing to about 200 microns over a 10 year period. After twenty years, by which it's down to roughly 150 microns the...

Re: Coppercoat bottom paint

I am sure Jim Edwards at Coppercoat USA LLC would be able to do a better price than $150 per litre pack for the 14 packs required. You'll probably be looking at a total price of about $1500. Which...
