Actually your first few paragraphs are completely off base. You assume way too much, and there should be no need to "practice" getting your anchor to set unless you use one that is deficient in...

The cross section of the Spade shank is triangular. That's the most rigid geometric shape. Very strong.

As for the Aluminum Spade, we had some problems getting it to penetrate hard bottoms. ...
