Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
I was thinking the washing machine level switch because it wouldn't need to be in the water and could be mounted remotely out of the bilge scum. Using a piece of 1/2" or 3/4" PVC with a tubing... |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
All my rule switch instalation allowed the pump to pump down below the switch sut off point. All failed in between 6 to 18 months in new England where the season is 6 months, all in boats with dry... |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
Every rule float switch I've had failed within 6 through 18 months in previous boat. Went to different manufacturer and style on that boat, lasted 3 years. That boat didn't take on much water, so not... |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
You get what you pay for, quality costs. Unfortunately I don't think there would be enough room in the deep sump to mount it, the primary pump is there along with the strainers for the secondary... |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
The switch would never see the water, it sits in a dry place and senses pressure change in a tube you would have in the bilge. Sent from my SM-G900V using Cruisers Sailing Forum mobile app |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
I'm actually thinking the fill switch from a washing machine would work well if put through a relay to handle the high amperage (pump) side. I was fixing a washing machine the other day and figured... |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
I've seen comments both ways, but for the most part have seen positive comments lately. I'm not stuck to any one brand, which is why I made the bracket for the gear easy to install and remove, if it... |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
Actually the water witch switch is mounted on the back about 1.5" above the bottom of the pump, since it has a shutoff delay the pump drains completely to the bottom. The switch you see mounted... |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
This is the latest set up I'm going with, the pump is a 2000 GPH controlled by a water witch switch, which has had both good and bad ratings here. The secondary pump is remote, not a submerged pump... |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
I'd be curious to see what the commercial fishing guys use, although I seem to see enough fishing boats sink in our northeast waters often enough that I have to wonder if they encounter the same gear... |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
I gave up on Rule switches, I'm installing a new set up this weekend and now have two different manufacturers pump switches. It's mounted on an easily accessible bracket so I can replace/service it... |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
To be honest it's probably people like me who save the receipts for the large expensive items like electronics but don't save the paper for smaller items, I'm sure it would be wiser to do so since... |

Re: Rule Bilge Pump Float Switch Problems
Had the same issue with Rule switches, two year was about the life limit. The vendor suggested going to the heavy duty model, cost more but still quit after two years on a boat that doesn't see the... |
