Dolphin guide to anchorage

A while back I saw a sailing blog of a couple in a small mono cruising the outislands of the Bahamas. They came to an island and headed toward the anchorage. A dolphin appeared and seemed to be...

Re: DIY clean hull without diving

Guys,
The Remora Solo underwater battery powered rotary brush does require getting in the water with snorkel and is expensive to buy but works great for me. We pull our shallow draft catamaran in...

Re: Fly bridge or not

Thanks sailingharry, we are lucky to have 'em. We were on the delivery from Maine in April and another in October, and with the stratoglass down were quite warm. I've had 70 kt. gusts dead on the...

Re: Fly bridge or not

Re points made by clear water:

In open bridge deck designed there is no Main Salon. It is open with the helm somewhat aft of amidships and all lines and controls leading to the open bridge...

Re: Fly bridge or not

Everyone wanting to be on the bridge is one reason to have the open bridge deck. Most or all crew can be there where the action is. I suppose keeping the helmsman isolated might be good if there is...

Re: Fly bridge or not

I like the open bridge deck layout like the Maine Cat 30 and 41. Helm central with 360 visibility and protection. No high boom or exposure to wind and wave and all the guests are part of the action...

Re: Cat vs Cat vs Cat which one to buy?

HI C MAN
If you like lots of light and visibility you might consider a Main Cat build in Bremen, Maine. The are quality construction and been around since 1996, so there are a few used ones. We...

Re: 40' to 50' cata with flybridge?

Opps;
After I posted my reply I remembered you were looking for 40 to 50 foot cats, disqualifying the Sanya 57. I like the fly bridge too. We have twice chosen to bareboat on a Lagoon 440 mostly...

Re: 40' to 50' cata with flybridge?

Courju;
The May issue of Sail magazine has an ad for a Sany 57 by Fountaine Pajot with a fly bridge as shown in the pictures. It does not have one long bench seat inviting more of the crew to...

Re: Problem coming about on Maine Cat 30

To All;
Again, thank you very much for your time and thoughts which have been very, very helpful. To clarify, I do not currently own a Maine Cat 30. We chartered an old one for and afternoon with...

Re: Problem coming about on Maine Cat 30

To All;
Thanks for your ideas, several of which I had not considered. I think having the main too tight (or just easing it for coming about) could make a big difference and I had not considered it....

Problem Coming About on Maine Cat 30

I’m interested in buying a Maine Cat 30 for use on a long inland lake and got to sail on one recently to see what I thought. It was a very old one and we had trouble coming about without motor...
