Re: Are Liveaboards Unwanted? Disliked? All over Everywhere?

This thread has really opened my eyes to different points of view on the subject but why isn't anyone talking about trying to be more self sustaining. It seems like one of the big points of...

Re: Are liveaboards unwanted? disliked? all over everywhere?

Here in Portland I just saw that one of the local news stations is going to do an "expose" on transient boat people and of course the only story there is surrounding people that look like drug...

Re: Hardwiring Speakers

Thanks for the help everyone. After exploring my other options it looks like there is a problem at the light. I guess I'll be climbing the mast.

Re: Hardwiring Speakers

There each wired to their own 15amp breaker switch. Would one effect the other?

I did plug it into a different breaker but it flipped that one too.

Re: Hardwiring Speakers

So it's a wood mast and doesn't touch metal anywhere but I'll try reversing polarity when I get back to the boat. Hopefully it's not a problem at the light.

Re: Hardwiring Speakers

When you say short to ground do you mean just a short somewhere in the ground wire? It's a standard light. Could switching the polarity actually make a difference?

Re: Hardwiring Speakers

They were red and black...I'm listening to the right now. But I just wired my anchor light to the panel and it keeps flipping the 15amp breaker. Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting that.

Re: Hardwiring Speakers

Thanks for the help. I was able to get them wired to their own switch on the breaker panel yesterday no problem. I don't know why I put off re-doing all this wiring for so long...it's so easy.

Re: wood mast

I would suggest that you do a good survey on the mast. Is it painted or varnished? I just spent all of last winter rebuilding my 53 year-old wood mast around the spreaders but from the outside it...

Re: 4:1 or 6:1 Mainsheet System

Thanks for the help everyone...I'm going to contact Garhauer and see if they have a better picture or diagram on that so I can see clearer how it works and make a decision from there. Then I just...

Re: 4:1 or 6:1 Mainsheet System

So does that mean you have just as much line as a regular 6:1 or twice as much? How can you pull in on one end without just pulling the other end straight through...and how do you distinguish the two?

Re: 4:1 or 6:1 Mainsheet System

So that two speed vang has totally confused me...it isn't that much more but I'm having a hard time visualizing how it works. The pictures show two ends running through the cam cleat that are tied...

Re: 4:1 or 6:1 Mainsheet System

So with the "boom vangs" on the Garhauer site what would you recommend for a mainsheet? There are two that both have 2800lb breaking strength and 50ft of 7/16 line. The only difference I can see is...

Re: 4:1 or 6:1 Mainsheet System

Yeah I plan on checking Sexton's used gear room but I wanted a little more info first. Thanks everyone...I think I have a better idea of what to look for now.

Re: 4:1 or 6:1 Mainsheet System

So does Garhauer make ratcheting blocks or is that not as necessary as I've been lead to believe either?

It's good to hear different points of view...it sounds like people have had success with both. How big do the pins need to be in relation to the hole. One of the problems I've had is that the pins...
