Shore charges
They have a great reputation. It's my belief that more batteries are wrecked by shore based charges than anything else. |

AGM problem
AGMs have been found to have 'memory' problems-you have to fully charge them every time you charge them or lose capacity. So, conventional batteries with these: Water Miser Safety Vent Battery Cap... |

Steel needs its reinforcement-
Actually, a poorly designed or built steel boat will 'flop' and crack. This happened with a Bruce Roberts design when he didn't specify reinforcement inside the plating of a steel boat where the... |

Chris White and Alwoplast
Well, I don't think a fallen wind indicator and a chafing halyard are especially significant failures, and since he isn't the builder I don't think that they reflect on Mr. White in any event. ... |

Chris White isn't a boat builder, and isn't Chilean
Chris White is not a boat builder, and he does not live in Chile. See: Chris White Designs (https://www.chriswhitedesigns.com/) He is also the author of an excellent book on multihulls which I own... |

Fastcat and Butterfly issues
As Nordic Cat said, the Butterfly folks didn't think they were going to be involved in the construction-They thought that they were showing up to take ownership of their boat when it would be... |

Nobody cares like an owner
I had a major house remodel done, with an entire second story addition, and if I hadn't been keeping an eye on it, it would have been a disaster-structural plans which were part of the contract were... |

What about potential problems you can't see by eye?
And there are some defects that cannot be evaluated by eye. I am compelled to wonder about basic structural issues such as the adequacy of the scantlings 'as built.' No backing plates where needed... |

Fastcat anchoring system sucks overall
Not only is it too lightly built considering how long it is and therefor subject to great leverage, but the whole anchoring setup is poorly designed and implemented. The chain was hot due to a short... |

Many serious defects in brand new Fastcat-
This boat, which has many, many serious problems demonstrating poor construction and poor quality control, is a brand new Fastcat. The Fastcat factory is working on them, so I give them credit for... |

Shrouds come quite aft these days.
Many, perhaps most, rigs on newer catamarans have shrouds that come quite a ways aft. I think this is a terrible idea-you can't use your main when running with this setup. All very well for a... |

"c" system
For a 1200 sq. ft. mainsail you have to use the biggest system that Harken makes-the "C" system. It's not cheap. |

The domino effect
Well, there have been cases of boats in boat yards going down like dominoes in hurricanes. Obviously not multihulls, but you don't want a mono falling onto your multihull. |

Mangroves
Well, I have seen mangroves growing in rather exposed places as well as in sheltered coves, and I'm sure you have, too. I would think the rolled up mangroves would have been in a fairly exposed... |

100 pages of specifications? Gosh, it might be easier to build a boat than write 100 pages of specifications! I think it's a good thing that your boat has gotten longer-waterline length is a key... |

Hurricane anchoring
Yes, there is always the danger of too many boats for too few spots. I don't disagree at all that unattended or poorly run boats to windward are a very important danger. Mangroves by themselves... |

Pestilential holes have their attractions-
No, thanks, it's the tiny, repulsive, mosquito-infested mud-lined mangrove hole for me. I would have said that there would have been quite a few of those within a half day's sail from there. I'd be... |

Where did you get your ideas about Costco?
This is not true at all. Costco doesn't buy 'remnants.' You take no chance buying at Costco, as they have the best return policy and service on the planet. Their maximum markup is 14%, and if they... |
