Next Step 12P troubleshooting

Hi,
just recently I moved location of my engine instrument panel, glow plug solenoid, as well replacing some other engine related wiring.
Everything was carefully documented, and reconnected as...

ZF SD10 with wrong handed propeller

Hi All,
I own a 28ft yacht with a one-off marinized Briggs and Stratton DM950D mated to a SD10 purchased from a Nanni dealer. The PO had the installation done.

So a while back I found out my prop...

Re: Constant Power to Stereo

I agonized over this situation for a while on my boat. I wanted zero draw, as often away for weeks, and did not want to rely entirely on my solar panel.
Ended up finding the Fusion RV-CD850BT....

Re: charging a small battery from a larger battery

Thanks for the further replies. Good to hear others have not had issues after years with similar setups. Will leave all as is - suits me well!

Belt driven loads - 'balancing' needed?

Hi,
I recently removed my fridge compressor in favour of a DC system.
Now I have two belts left: the fresh water cooling pump, and alternator on one, and the added-on raw water pump on the other....

Re: charging a small battery from a larger battery

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm not sure what the absorbtion rate is set to, but I thought that typically the voltages used on smart regs would lightly gas a lead acid, to ram in charge at max...

charging a small battery from a larger battery

Hi,
I'm considering options for isolating the charging of my start battery from my house battery, due to the facts that a) the start battery (tiny 350cca) is much smaller in capacity b) always...

Re: fridge pressure release valve opened - why?

Hi Richard,
My system was inspected by the technician today, and we confirmed that indeed the shaft seal (carbon, with spring) was now leaking (having passed pressure and vacuum testing originally)....

Re: fridge pressure release valve opened - why?

Hi Richard,
Another question;
It's correct that the York shaft seal requires the sump oil for lubrication, right?
To the best of my knowledge the technician who charged the system did not add any...

Re: fridge pressure release valve opened - why?

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the reply - hoped you might be online.
My system only has a relief valve, but the clutch control sounds like a good idea.
Can overcharging the system cause a 250-300 PSI...

fridge pressure release valve opened - why?

Hi all, hoping for some insight in to a weird problem.
I have a fridge/freezer of 80L driven by a York (CCI) 210 compressor on the engine. Had it recharged the other day after I rebuilt the...

Re: Overheating Raw-Water Cooled Volvo

Thanks Everyone for the suggestions, I have resolved the problem.

Turns out that my custom thermostat housing was to blame.

Water entered the housing, then went straight out the exhaust. Even...

Re: Overheating Raw-Water Cooled Volvo

Hi Lamont, I also have a 14x7 folding prop on a Volvo Saildrive.
My boat is 25.5 foot 1800+ kg. I get max 5.8-6 knots on GPS when the bottom is clean, and there's no opposing wind/tide. Not sure...

Re: Thermostat housing - importance?

I have not changed the restriction for water getting out of the engine, just in the circulation path. I hear what you say about absorbing the heat, but surely for arguments sake, twice the amount of...

Re: Thermostat housing - importance?

Thanks - already seen that one. Unfortunately it does not indicate what the flow direction is, or how flow might be controlled.

Thermostat Housing: How important?

Hi,
I have a little raw water cooled Volvo MD5, which I built a new thermostat housing for.
Looking at the cooling circuit, I don't fully understand what controls the direction of water flow....

Re: Overheating raw-water cooled Volvo

Good point about the bypass holes - may enlarge them a little bit and see what happens.
Still, need to find what the real issue is, could be causing other harm that hasn't come apparent yet.....

Re: Overheating raw-water cooled Volvo

Hi, It's definitely the right gasket, and I'm pretty sure it'd be hard to install wrong way up, but good thought - I'll check it out. Exhaust gasket is a single hole with two stud holes either side,...

Re: Overheating raw-water cooled Volvo

Hi, Thanks Paul. Yeah removed the thermostat outright, and the engine never got anywhere near 60 degrees even - so that's probably good right? I don't think there are cooler thermostats, this is...

Re: Overheating raw-water cooled Volvo

Intake water temp is about 20 degrees.
I'm guessing exhaust water temp will be about 80 degrees? I have a pretty new Pricol sensor fitted in the head, and have used a Infrared camera/laser...

Re: Overheating raw-water cooled Volvo

Thanks for the ideas. Actually power is pretty good. Though I have reason to suspect the injection angle is not right. That said, it has worked without overheating with current injection angle. Oil...

Overheating Raw-Water Cooled Volvo

Hi,

I have a little MD5A 7.5hp (late 70's) in my 26 foot keeler, which has recently started overheating after owning for 6+ years (incl. partial rebuild).
Very quick recent history:
The boat...
