Re: Canoe as a Tender / Dinghy ?

I like Cap'n Bill's idea of an outrigger. I wonder if there are any outriggers that you can easily mount/demount and keep in the canoe when not in use?

Re: What Ever Happened to Learn by Doing ? Read a Book and Go for it !

Re: The Top 10 Dead Horses

The dead horses are only dead for you old warhorses. Young colts like myself who are new to the forum actually find some value in them.

Maybe to keep the forum fresh some old threads could be...

Re: What Ever Happened to Learn by Doing ? Read a Book and Go for it !

Personally, I think the ASA courses are great, but I had a good teacher who really knew hist stuff, despite being a young whipper snapper. I just got back from taking 101 - 104.

However, I...

Re: My Four-Year Plan

Good idea on the female sailing instructor. I know there are a couple of all-women programs out there. "Womanship" is one, I think. But for now I think she'll just be content to be a passenger.

Re: My four year plan

Kindle, I have a picture of your savings thermometer in my head and it makes me grin! But in my head, instead of a paper-sized thermometer it's eight feet tall and it's held onto your fridge with...

Re: small motorcycle on a liveaboard ???

Ooh, a challenge! I looked up rotomolded shipping containers. My quick search yielded the biggest ones with dimensions:
52" x 48" x 18.81" for $1170. ("Zero" brand waterproof lockable)
50" X...

Re: My four year plan

Hey, thanks to everyone for the support, good ideas, and links! I'm signing up for the class this week and looking into sailing clubs around my area.

I had a Gosling's Black Seal rum with water...

Re: My four year plan

That's great advice about the sailing couple, and the boat show.

Sometimes I do wish we could go right now, but to be honest, even if everyone else wanted to do it I don't think I could stand...

Re: Challenge: Sail Around the World on $15k ?

Heck, I'd trade all the money I've made since I was 24 to be 24 again. (As long as I could keep the family, of course. And what I know now. And the confidence I've gained. And all the memories...

Re: My four year plan

Thanks for the welcomes, all! Yes, the tough nut to crack will be my wife. Our second date was a sail on my Seafarer 23 a looong time ago, so she is OK on the water but not really an enthusiast. ...

Re: Twenty Small Sailboats to Take You Anywhere

Ha! Any of them would do for me at the moment, who is boatless except for a lake runabout. Except maybe the Vega. :)

Re: Twenty Small Sailboats to Take You Anywhere

That is my favorite book at the moment. I think I've nearly memorized the chapters on the Cape Dory 25D and Pearson Triton.

My Four-Year Plan

Why didn't I sail around the world when I was 22? I guess my excuse is I was a stupid kid and got a job instead. Oh, yeah - and I was also deeply in debt.

Well now I have a house, a job, a...
