Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32

No clue on the history of your boat except that it is an Aries 32 built for Sausilito Yacht Sales , hull 33 built in 1983.

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32

Heartbreaking to hear that Chester P was damaged. It was so beautiful and so much work had been done. Glad to hear that she was saved from the chain-saw and has a new owner that will bring her...

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32

Love the mount, will buy the same Garmin just to use it.

Now, in your blog you talk about starting the radome mounting. Talk to me. I really want a small radar because I see a lot of New England...

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32

Anton - thanks for the pictures of Horizon and update on Herb Madden. Horizon looks about 85% identical to our Skidbladnir. Interesting that the lazarette hatch is inside the cockpit coamings. That...

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32

I have many fond memories of Herb. I hope he is doing well - he has to be over 80. Last I saw him was about 15 years ago, he was the Harbor Master in Sausalito, supervising the marina that he had...

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32

I don't know. The basis is the CC Chen Gilmer design which Chen sold to a number of "finishers" The Aires is the Sausalito Yacht Works version, the Roughwater was another, I would be interested in...

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32

I also thought that the dowel that would plug the hole would have the bore for the carriage bolt through it and that the dowel could be buttered on the end with a big, thick West HD glob and then...

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32

Thanks for being the good angels, that bad angel was getting me leaning. No lag bolts. I agree that the two top lags were probably just to snug the plate to the hull and reduce any inboard/outboard...

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32

Not wet at all, felt good, smelled good. Except that I want to install new chainplates, I should have left them alone. There appears to be a fair amount of space between the sill (that's what I am...

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32

Surprised but delighted to see the thread still alive. As it happens, I pulled the chain plate studs this weekend. Interesting. Using a 1 1/8 hole saw and a washer on the stud to center (hole saw...

The mast is square sectioned of spruce-looking wood with external halyards and a two inch square wire chase up the middle. Never had any rot but I have been liberal with CPES and epoxy every time...
