Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

Not sure about holding tanks. They are full when max load stability testing is done but not specified as being full as part of load for builders plate load recommendation. Others probably know but...

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

I believe that I may owe an apology for posting incorrect information regarding the CE capacity plate. I posted (#181) that the CE max load only included 50% fuel and water load, and therefore the...

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

No, I just asked people who know about maximum loading so that real information could be provided.

No discussion of my vessel. Why are you raising another distraction?

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

Hey Jim. Are you still moderating? Looks like some moderation is needed when people are unjustly accused of lying, etc.

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

You're very quick to throw insults and make accusations! No miracles, no lies. Just you not comprehending things. Are you saying that we fabricated a false CE plate?

This Seawind 1250 discussion...

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

In the light of dubious information (misinformation? ) online, I too "phoned a friend". Seawind 1250 owning friends, that is. I trust their information, but if anyone has "alternative facts" I'm...

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

Builders or designers can use any rule they like. In many parts of the world, that is. CE however is independently assessed and IIRC, max payloads are calculated with 50% fuel and water, ground...

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

3,300 kg CE Category A load for a Seawind 1250? "You CANNOT be serious."

Perhaps there are those that know but would prefer to discuss reefing points in mainsails?

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

This is just a distraction. You made the claim that the Seawind 1250 was specifically designed to be a long distance cruising boat. If this is correct then it must be capable of carrying a long...

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

Resorting to insults so soon?

The data regarding Seawind payloads or maximum displacement are not mentioned on Seawind's website.

Re: Re-caulking of seams

I don't think silicone is bad its just that polyurethane is better.

I'm not an adhesives expert so am happy to follow the recommendations of experts:

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

If you are making this assertion you must know a bit about the model. Can you tell us it's cruising payload?

Re: Re-caulking of seams

Good advice, Boatman. Is that "first 2/3rds" of sealant?

I've done similiar, but use a good UV resistant polyurethane sealant, not silicone. My job was as tight as a fish's bum; that's watertight...

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

You are not comparing the same boat; with or without daggers because there is a significant weight difference as well. The poor old S1160 struggles under inboard diesels and and a heavy fittout which...

Re: Big decision time

Thanks Lars. Well done Havhunden.

This confirms what we expected; older model Lagoons outperforming newer models and the good old L380 (expertly sailed) punching way above its weight compared with...

Re: Unbearable Lagoon Representation

I know that this is the "Trump era" and all that, but who said women know nothing about boats and how they sail? I'm always happy to involve my wife/sailing partner in boat decisions and would worry...

Re: Upwind performance of condomarans

You'd do even better to windward with a flatter cut sail like a code zero.

The "condomarans" being discussed usually come "under canvassed" with regards to working sails (main and jib/genoa) for...

Re: External antenna installation tips

It probably is essential on some boats and I'm sure that there's a profit motive as well.

Re: External antenna installation tips

I couldn't install in that position as it would interfere with the boom preventer that I use when deep reaching. We run this fom the end of the boom to an aft cleat, so it would take out an antenna...

Re: L42 - Best Location for Lithium Batteries

I wouldn't think an engine compartment is an ideal location for a LiFePO4 battery bank. Aside from the temperature issue that you mentioned there's also increased exposure to salt and water....

Re: Big decision time

For the difference in price between a good used L380 and a new L40 you could afford to pay for an awesome interior remodeling. Hell, even if you bought a brand new L380 you could cut out the whole...

Re: Lagoon 420 Owners & Fans

Congratulations on getting "Bonanza" back in the water.

Our L400 manual also states"100% genoa with 2 reef in the mainsail is prohibited absolutely ".

We have sailed with no main and 100%...

Re: Let’s talk about where our Lagoons have taken us.

Yeah, but he'd probably would have had to rid himself of some of Endeavour's compliment of 94 and chucked some of the ten 4 pound cannon. Unless he traded up to a L620!

Re: Let’s talk about where our Lagoons have taken us.

Nice photo, Dave.

BTW, Lt. James Cook also compared his vessel to the catamarans of the Maori, and noted their superior sailing ability. Something many modern monohull sailors still don't...
