1969 Mariner 31 rebuild

Ok, some of you folks remember the Mariner 31 we started working on last year and put to the side. We sold it as a restoration boat package and boy, did we bite off a big one.

Re: Is it good to sail from Southern CA to Seatle?

It's a tough beat but doable. The problem is how fast things can change. Made the trip this past Summer and still hit a gale there.

Re: Fat Boat rollout. F-46 reveal

It's a combination of poor workmanship in areas, age and missed maintenance cycles. I've laid hands on a Fisher 37 as well.

Re: Fat Boat rollout. F-46 reveal

Contact Dirk Nansen, the broker for Meretune. He knows a good surveyor. If you decide on the 37, we damned sure know where the uglies hide and how to fix 'em on these boats. I'd be willing to go...

Re: Fat Boat rollout. F-46 reveal

Yes we had to pull the strakes. There were 1" wide cracks hiding behind the wood due to poor construction methodology on each side of every scupper. We cut back 3-6 inches in all directions and...

Re: Fat Boat rollout. F-46 reveal

The time went into the boat, not the accessories. Bellingham, WA. I don't know. Not the broker on this deal.

Re: Coating Wood With Epoxy to Prevent Rot

Pure EG is expensive and difficult to find. I have used it to kill existing rot spores followed by Smith's CPES successfully. YMMV.

Re: Someone painted my mast ug!

We paint aluminum sticks just like we used to paint aircraft. It's process driven, pricey but lasts for ten years or more.

Re: Coating Wood With Epoxy to Prevent Rot

What I've found over the years is that Penetrating epoxy doesn't penetrate very far at all across grain, only with it. Coating wood does no real good at all except at the ends.

Re: Delamination/Penetrating Expoxy/Purchase dilemma

Two years later and no problems at all. I used Silvertip because of it's low viscosity.

Why have you got an extra 6,300 pounds of weight on your boat would be my question? The typical boat settles an inch for every 900 Lbs..

The last sprit we made was Sitka Spruce from a log that had been sitting in a local warehouse for 50 years..
