Re: 1984 Kirie Feeling 920 Refit

Thanks for all the responses! I guess keeping the ss tank seems like the best idea. If its not broken, no reason to replace it. Will definitely want to add the inspection hatch and water gauge as...

Re: 1984 Kirie Feeling 920 Refit

Thanks for the advice!

Couple questions about it:

So you think we should keep the ss and add those inspection covers? We've already taken it out, but we still have it.

1984 Kirie Feeling 920 Refit

Been asking a few questions on here and starting different threads for them, so figured I'd just document in here whats been done, and the ongoing progress so when I inevitably have more problems and...

Re: Chain Locker Question

Thank you! Makes so much sense haha. Can’t believe I wasn’t thinking that.

I’ve read some people say they seal up their drain holes to prevent any water from coming in when hitting waves. What do...

Re: Bolt on Keel Issue

Thanks for giving me your opinion on that and asking someone else you know as well. Tomorrow going to call the boat yard and see if they can check it out and how much it would cost to get it dropped....

Re: Bolt on Keel Issue

Yes, we planned on after getting a lot of the refit completed to hire a surveyor to check the work we did. I have the book, inspecting an aging sailboat and went through that book and the boat seems...

Re: Bolt on Keel Issue

I would love if we could do that and not have to take the keel off. Another guy here at the yard recommended the same thing to us, to take it off one by one and just replace it.

But the chance of...

Re: Bolt on Keel Issue

Yes that is something we’re working on right now. The windows were cracked so we replaced one side already and that helped, and since none of the deck hardware was bedded in we removed all that and...

Re: Bolt on Keel Issue

The boat is a French made 1984 Kirie Feeling 920, we’re over in Alabama on the gulf and as for experience, we have some prior experience doing similar general work. But nothing of this magnitude of...

Re: Bolt on Keel Issue

I haven’t heard of them. Would they be better than using regular stainless?

Re: Bolt on Keel Issue

Yeah I think a previous owner must have just put in new bolts without taking the keel off since a couple of them look more new than the others.

I was thinking that. Not sure how that would be...

Re: Bolt on Keel Issue

I thought so but just wanted another opinion. Thanks! Would you recommend doing it yourself, or hiring the yard to do it? Basically redoing everything on the boat right now so one more thing doesn’t...

Re: Chain Locker Question

Thanks for the link! Was on the boat this morning and it does have 2 locker drain holes so that’s good. Just need to work on figuring out making it water tight and then install a windlass.

Bolt on Keel Issue

Hey,

Have a question of what to do. One of the sections of the bolt on keel is rusted. The whole backing plate is basically dust, when I touch it, it just crumbles.

It looks like 2 sections...

Re: Chain Locker Question

Okay I’ll try that tomorrow and see if that fixes it. What’s also curious is that the piece separating the forward cabin from the chain locker, after removing the headliner looks to just be a piece...

Re: Chain Locker Question

Thanks for the response!

1. I haven’t checked for a drain in there yet. My main concern was some water seems to be leaking in the forward cabin when it rains. So it makes me think some water...

Re: Building a Hardtop

Hey thanks for the post! That looks very nice. What material and how did you make the mold for building it? How are you running the wires from the solar panel down it? I saw on project Atticus they...

Re: Building a Hardtop

Yeah I’d like to form it in a single piece, but I was thinking making the sides, and top and then attaching them would be easier to put together and adjust. Then just glass them together.

Z...

Re: Building a Hardtop

I just hate the metal frame looks, which is the reason why I want to build a hard dodger and not have the metal/canvas option. A few extra layers and more thickness in the foam could be enough? I saw...

Thanks for sharing that, was very informative and nice to see how their process went.

Re: Building a Hardtop

Oh wow that is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing that. Looks like a really nice idea of how he made the supports. I’m wondering how something similar would look as a support for a bimini?

Building a Hardtop

Hey everyone!

Wanted some opinion about building a hardtop dodger/Bimini.

From doing some research, I want to go with a carbon fiber/foam/carbon fiber sandwich panels.

Saw a video of them...

When polishing the sides, do you mean sanding down the sides?

Re: Window Replacement

Yeah it sure seems that way! I’m sure once I get it shipped down to my location I’ll have a lot of work since I like everything to be perfect, and that’s probably hard to have on a boat!
