Re: Mastervolt vs. Victron Combi inverters?

I know it's an old post, but I found it, some others might as well !

I've got a Mastervolt MassCombi 2000 and it run flawlessly for 7 years while actively cruising half of the time. It now starts...

Plans for an aluminium dinghy that planes, sails and rows easily ?

I've been looking for that kind of dingy for quite some time. I'm basically looking for something that will last forever hence the aluminium, and if possible not too shiny so that it doesn't attract...

Re: why is there an additional contact thermostat on my water heater ?

Some additional information :

As requested, I have attached a picture

The water heater unit is a 1200W/220VAC unit, so the 4 amp rating is clearly too low to put in series with the heater...

what are the drawbacks of installing my boiler tank upside down ?

I'm installing my new water heater tank and I'm wondering if installing it upside down (ie with all the inlets/outlets on top) would be acceptable.

I understand I wouldn't be able to use the...

Re: why is there an additional contact thermostat on my water heater ?

No, it's not connected to anything. There are two wires that seemed to be connected to the sensor, so my guess is that I can use them to power a relay (or a LED, or a buzzer, or anything else) if the...

Hi,
On my Sigmar water heater (model BO 60) there are two small wires marked "contact thermostat, max 4A, closes at 65°C open at 45°C" on top of the main electrical AC connection and its three...

Hi,

I've got an Iridium Extreme handset that I'm using to get grib files during passages, and that I plan to use for emergency purposes in case of a disaster.

Re: is there a diesel water heater that works with electricity and engine coolant ?

Just look at the Hurricane Combi, this is exactly what I want, but a bit on the expensive side though! The ability to warm up the engine in very cold climates is definitely a plus as well; thanks you!

Re: is there a diesel water heater that works with electricity and engine coolant ?

That sounds like exactly what I want. I looked at Espar's Hydronic coolant heaters, and I didn't see a model which could use shore power. Can you please share the exact model you're using ?
thanks a...

Re: is there a diesel water heater that works with electricity and engine coolant ?

If I understand correctly your idea, instead of warming up some dedicated coolant with the Webasto and circulate it in the heater tank in a separate coil, you warm up the engine coolant in case it...

Re: is there a diesel water heater that works with electricity and engine coolant ?

Only one circuit, currently linked to the engine directly. But I could definitely buy a new water heater with two circuits.

If I go for a Webasto, I'm a bit confused with how this works: I'm...

Re: is there a diesel water heater that works with electricity and engine coolant ?

I have indeed seen that kind of dual exchanger water heater, that's a good idea, thanks!

Running the engine to warm up a water tank sounds to me as a very inefficient use of diesel, but I haven't...

Hi,
I'm considering buying a diesel water heater to replace my current one, which produce hot water using either shore power or engine coolant, depending on what's available. Obviously, this means I...

Re: is adding a fuel tank 6ft aft of the bow on a 43ft monohull a bad idea?

Well, I currently have around 100 gals, which is plenty for sailing in Europe, but I'm considering going to Patagonia, in which case I'll definitely need way more. It's not uncommon for boats sailing...

Re: is adding a fuel tank 6ft aft of the bow on a 43ft monohull a bad idea?

Thank you for your wisdom :)
Unfortunately I can't ask the designer because he's dead :(

as Paul L suggested, I'm planning on using the fuel stored there first, and possibly to leave it empty in...

is adding a fuel tank 6ft aft of the bow on a 43ft monohull a bad idea?

Hi,

Like everybody, I know that weight should be put as far away from the bow as possible. What I don't know is how important the effect is, particularly as you go farther and farther from the...

I'm also surprised you didn't see the...

Re: Can a modern radar pick up a fishing buoy ?

What's the issue with logs ? They won't foul your prop and your bow will just toss them aside as you go, won't it ?

Re: Why won't my water pump stop if there's no leak ?

The install is brand new. It's a new tank I just installed, with clean water in it, new piping, and a new pump. Granted it might be a defect in the pump itself. I might get it back to the shop...

Reading the manual was the first thing I did, available here (https://www.xylemflowcontrol.com/files/31X95_32600_43000-1810.pdf) for your convenience

as you can see they don't mention anything...
