Re: First time cruise Cape Cod Canal to Bar Harbor, ME. Ports?

We haven't been Downeast since before COVID, so I'm VERY jealous. We've only ever chartered sailboats out of Rockland and gone as far east as Acadia, so I don't know about the overnight but... my 2...

Re: Advice for Customs in Grenadines/Grenada

We did exactly this same trip last month - there's a lot of wrong information here.

1. Your charter company will walk you through where, how, and when to clear in and out. Take notes and ask...

Re: Catching Fish while Sailing?

We use a "Cruiser's Meat Line" hand line setup. I found these a couple years ago, but a google search now doesn't turn anything up. I think we paid like maybe $30 for each rig.

The rig came with...

Re: What happened to the "small" "Affordable" cruisers?

Robert Perry is right now designing a 37' "affordable" family cruiser and sharing the progress on his Facebook Fan Club. Check it out, the boat looks great!

Re: USCG Six Pack license sea time fraud

I had a fellow club member approach me last year and ask me to sign off on some of his "sea time" and generally vouch for his seamanship and skills. I've never sailed with him and only know the...

Re: Buying boat for charter with Dream Yacht Charter

We bought a boat into the DYC charter fleet one year ago this week. We did the "Dream Easy" program where we paid 35% down and then have a 25% balloon payment at the end of the 66 month contract.

Re: YouTube Sailors - Overly Romanticized Or Just Lacking Details?

We're new enough to sailing that vlogs have played a part from before the beginning.

Delos was key in getting us off the couch and into the idea of crossing oceans. The series of videos where it...

Re: Some ideas for Christmas in the Caribbean?

Thanks for the tips. SV & Grenadines looks great. A bonus is that flights down there on Caribbean Airlines lay over in Trinidad, so perhaps we can get a day or two for Trini Christmas.

Regarding...

Some ideas for Christmas in the Caribbean?

We're going to charter for a week or two over the Christmas holiday. Where would you go if you could go anywhere? We did Junkanoo in Nassau and then a week in the Exumas that was pretty amazing....

Re: What to get for my wife for our week on a boat

Don't listen to anybody telling you to invest in automatic PFDs. You'd be wasting $500 or more on your first trip.
ASA 101-104 in the BVIs is simple. You won't be sailing in conditions that require...

Re: CO2 cartridges on Airplanes

Meh. I just leave it in my PFD, stuff it in my checked bag, and go. No airport security is ever gonna find it and I've never had a problem in 5 different trips. It's always easier to ask forgiveness...

Re: SCUBA diving success stories?

Wife and I got into sailing specifically to feed our insatiable SCUBA habit. We don't mind paying the $40-75 per dive fee to various shops around the Carribean, we just prefer not to dive with DMs...

I'm very curious to hear about your experience on that Pogo 30 out of Martinique. The wifey and I are looking at that same boat/company for our next charter.

We have similar interests as you...

Re: Cruising Sailboats: a Dying Breed?

I'm lol'ing at all the boomers on here making false assumptions about "kids these days". The reason why sailing is dying:
1. Young people don't have free time anymore. Everyone I know younger than...
