Re: Electric repower Hunter 450 Passage

I had my shipwright install a 7kw system in my 6500 lbs sloop. My opinion is, knowing
your situation, it would be easier and possibly smarter to fly in a new or used replacement. Then it is only a...

Re: Piston slap

I don't think that slap goes away when warmed up.
If the lifters are hydraulic, then a lifter is sticking.
Change the oil and add a little thicker SAE.

Re: How to make my Yamaha 15 2stroke (Asia) drive in a straight line?

The foot has to be perpendicular to the water. If it is at angle, the trust from one side of the prop is greater than the other side. ie turn.
A four bladed prop should help a little.

Re: Grenada Boat Yard

I heard the choice is limited. A friend switched to the smaller one run by a woman.

Re: Canadian Considering Boat in Sint Maarten

I'm glad you didn't buy it. You could have lost everything.
Don't register it in Canada, it will never get here.
Down south, rent, and never buy.

I know of a Corbin 39 in Grenada...

Re: Underpowered, which propeller to install?

If you really are underpowered the best prop is Autoprop.
It self adjusts to your torque.

Re: Replace Jeanneau keel?

I think the procedure is to buy two torpedos that bolt onto the keel and remove the rest of the keel below 5'6'' or less. Then sell the lead. I saw it done three years a go in the yard. Fairing as...

Re: Bent strut and bent prop shaft $$?

Beneteau have shafts in millimeters, so used parts are not easy to get. Now could be the time to switch to English measure and used parts. The prop would have to be switched or a shim may be needed....

Re: Gas in Diesel - help!!

A simple correction to the problem is to find a used Yanmar in approx. the same condition, and have the Marina switch the engines and keep the old one.
They pay and you wait until it runs. Check...

Re: Electric power: how does this affect resale value?

I had to repower my Atomic 4. I also had a very good shipwright that had already installed plain 7.2 kw electric motors in a lifeboat.
Unknown to me another club member had just developed the Bruce...

Re: Westerbeke 27 overheating troubleshoot

Since you have a laser gun temp gauge, remove the thermostat for a while.
The next thermostat should be the coldest possible.

Re: Powering a c and c 38

Yes and a 9.9 hp should do it. Or have someone you trust tow you.

Re: Yanmar SB12 Burning Oil!

Sometimes a different brand of oil works wonders. Rotella?
Since you are a hands on guy, try "Seafoam" to rid the inside of carbon
build up.

Re: searching for a frugal folding prop

It is a lot easier to find a 2 bladed folding prop, 12 inches in diameter, for a 7/8'' shft that rotates left. What is the best pitch? LH 12X?X7/8.
Somewhere on Craigslist is one for $150. ...

Re: Mexican fuel

No one has mentioned the funnel filter used by all Canadian bush pilots. It removes all water and sand like impurities. Its a common everyday felt hat. Yes a felt hat. It will also remove the varnish...

Re: Yanmar 3GM30f hard starting

I would change or install a check valve on the fuel line, before going much further. The much further maybe a dose of "Seafoam" in the engine oil as well as the diesel fuel.

Re: Bigger prop for Catalina 30

No Mondays should speak of numbers. What is your maximum RPM, and what are the numbers on the prop that you have? Especially the last number for pitch.

Re: V-drive question

Whether V-drives turn or not, I think it doesn't matter. But they are usually mounted on greater angles than regular transmissions, so the dip stick indications, are in error, leading to...

Re: How Do I Fix a Bent Rudder Post?

I spoke to my shipwright a few months ago about fixing a bent rudder. He said it was easy and it took a specific, but common tool, to do it. Something like a "creepy crawler" or something crawler, to...

Re: Issues with a SP135 Lehman engine.

Why not change the valve and reseat the seat. Or just reseat with grinding compound. That could be done locally. Add a new head gasket, and its over with for a while. How much would that cost? The...

Re: Issues with a SP135 Lehman engine.

Double check, but I doubt an old Lehman's extended valve will reach the piston.
In your geographical situation, forcing a decarbonizer down between the valve stem and the valve guide may yield...

Re: White smoke followed by a belch of soot

I would start by adding a treatment of Seafoam to the fuel to clean up the system.
Its sort of a let sleeping dogs lie, or if it ain't broke don't fix it situatiojn. Just cleaning the pump and...

Re: 1.5 mm play in prop shaft

If it has RPM zones with minimum vibration, then go for it.
