Re: Would you get rid of a self steering wind vane if you had one?

Any of you guys interested in getting rid of your windvane, please let me know. I’d actually like to have one. I’m a fan of autopilot for shorter trips, but I’m considering doing some longer trips....

Re: What do YOU think is the best charging option?

Hey, Trav! Actually, I'm a PA. I've considered surgical options, but none have really proven themselves effective enough that I'm willing to go through the discomfort. I'm actually VERY happy with...

Re: What do YOU think is the best charging option?

Again, thanks so much on the cpap comments. I did a little research, and it looks like there is now an EXCELLENT travel cpap, the Transcend minicpap. It is available with its own battery, can be...

Re: What do YOU think is the best charging option?

Thanks for the comment on the cpap - yes, I wanted to make sure and get that in there, as it's my largest draw. And after years of NOT having a cpap and slogging through, decent sleep is VERY...

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

Well, I got her hauled out after Thanksgiving, and to my great disappointment, she has a bad case of Boat Pox. And if that wasn't bad enough, it appears someone had already tried to repair several...

Re: What do YOU think is the best charging option?

Great responses here - thanks so much! It's quickly becoming apparent that solar is, indeed, most folks' mainstay. That's what I figured, but it's good to read a consensus. RainDog, I think your...

Re: What do YOU think is the best charging option?

Thanks, Trav, that's why I started this thread. I want to get the opinions of folks who have already set up their systems - pros and cons. What panels do you use, how many and in what arrangement?...

Re: What do YOU think is the best charging option?

Thanks for the reminder, Steamgoat. I forgot to mention that I do have all LED lights, and a Monitor windvane. My fridge only draws about 3 amps, and I use a cpap to sleep, which draws 6 amps. I will...

Re: What do YOU think is the best charging option?

Thanks, StuM! Yes, crossing there should be all down wind, but headed back should be another story! lol

What do YOU think is the best charging option?

Hey, all! I'm sure something like this thread has been posted before, but my ADD only allows for a certain amount of researching old threads - SO, I'd love to know your opinions:

I'm dreaming of a...

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

I may do just that. I love the mahogany doors, but it might be a real pain to put this one back in.

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

I do have the dinette version (though I took it out), but I don't have a post under the mast. We're fitting the beam around the bulkhead. If it doesn't appear to give enough support, we'll attach a...

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

And here's my '64 - after 6 months of delays, she is FINALLY out of the water! And, as several of you promised, there are NO blisters to be found! Cutless bearing totally shot, and bottom paint worn...

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

Hey, Don! It's good to see you getting into the mast support - sorry to hear you're curtailed for a bit. I don't have a ton of boat experience, as you know - but I did gut mine this past summer, and...

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

I'm a fan of hanking on, too. And regarding the cockpit boards, I'll probably have cushions made with a marine ply back, and stow them on the bulkheads in the v-berth when not in use. I do have a...

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

Hey, Eric! Well, yes! As a matter of fact, I DO own a gaff-rigged dinghy. That's an odd question. Why do you ask? Have you seen me or it at Bahia Marina?

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

Don, you are definitely NOT getting repetitious. Thanks for that last, encouraging post. I have a mentor down at the coast here, and he is very helpful. But, often times, I don't have a CLEW (see...

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

Thanks, Don - Yes, I realized she was a Mk I at some point, after perusing so many pictures of all you guys' boats. And I do remember reading Post #15 before. And, like you, I was unable to find any...

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

I just looked at her on the site. She looked really nice, way back when! Hopefully I'll be able to say the same in '16!

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

Well I'll be! Yes, I have hull #109! She is CURRENTLY named what the site says she's named (not using the name). I plan to rename her in '16, with the refit. Hopefully I can get her current name out...

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

I'm not sure. Will it be on the plate? I'll have to check again - I seem to recall it was difficult to make out.

Re: Thoughts on a 1962 Columbia 29

Unfortunately, mine hasn't sailed since I bought her a little over a year ago - so i definitely feel your pain. But, I guess that's part and parcel of buying a classic!

Re: Hard dodger free 29 columbia

Hi! I just saw this post from LAST YEAR, about a dodger for a Columbia 29. I'm sure you don't have it anymore, but I figured I'd check.

Thanks!
Dave
