Re: Is Singlehanding >24 Hrs. Morally Wrong?

Is single handing your car (like when I drive from Manhattan to Northeast Harbor, Maine to get to the boat ) “morally wrong”? Seems to me that one can do a helluva lot more damage driving along in a...

Re: Madeira to Caribbean later Nov 2017

Have schooner based in Palma de Mallorca and a Hinckley 50 yawl in Maine. Have sailed for 45 years. Usually single hand - go when and where I want. Nonetheless, being part of a crew from Madeira to...

Would you be interested in a Hinckley 50 yawl in perfect condition with all conceivable electronics; two autopilots, in-mast furling (all sails can be set and furled from the cockpit); easily...

I have a vintage Blakes-Taylor head on my schooner in Palma de Mallorca. (The schooner was built in 1977 in Europe). The schooner's plumbing looks very much like the picture you posted but the bowl...

Re: Jordan Series Drogue Launch and Recover Lagoon 450

I bought one of these (Jordan Drogue) a few years ago. Kept it in a sail locker for "just in case". But I have never deployed it in a survival-type storm. However, I thought that if I ever had...

Re: Hello from Mallorca

I also came to Delia, Mallorca about 30 years ago. I kept my yawl up in downeast Maine but dreamed about having her in the Med. My wife said "Well that sounds good but I don't want to be stuck on a...

Re: East Coast cruise suggestions required

Agree with Bleemus. Shoot thru the Mona passage, head for the gulf stream (take temperature readings so you know when you're in it) and all the way past Hatteras, Long Island (Montauk), duck in at...

Re: Brexit and VAT

My concern with BREXIT is that a British flagged vessel may have cruising restrictions as regards length of stay in EU countries. It could be just like bringing in an American vessel that can stay...

Count the injectors (3): you have a 3 cylinder 27 hp Westerbeke 30B. Most Westerbekes are red (altho some of the early Westerbekes were green - I have one of these green ones that powers my...

Re: Winter stop over in Sardinia?

Hi

Never been to Olbia. Saw pictures on internet. Looks nice. And a quarter of the price? I'll have to check it out. Are moorings usually available? What would be the approximate monthly cost of...

Re: Winter stop over in Sardinia?

Hi

I'd vote for Palma de Mallorca (Club de Mar) which is well sheltered, with excellent facilities and a very reasonable concierge service (if you need to leave your boat unattended for a while)....

Re: Canaries or southern Spain to leave the boat?

I've had 2 boats in Mallorca: a Hinckley 50 yawl two years and for the past year and a half, a classic schooner. There are several marinas along the Paseo in Palma. I particularly like Club de Mar in...

Re: US Army Retired trying to get into this life singlehandedly

This brings back memories. When I finished my second tour in 'Nam in 1969' , I bought a boat and lived on it. It was a 42 foot schooner. I tried the NAVY moorings in Pensacola but then living aboard...

Re: Sextant, what to buy?

Re: Too big to singlehand??

I single-hand my 50' Hinckley SW50 yawl about 98% of the time. The beauty about single-handing is that when you want to go somewhere you simply drop the mooring or leave the dock and go. I should...
