Time to Replace My Batteries?

We are trying to leave the dock and go to the Bahamas for a month or so.

I have 12 6-volt Trojan T-105 Lead Acid batteries. They are about 3 1/2 years old now. I've only owned the boat for...

Re: Escape Hatch vendors

It looks like I will end up going with the Vetus Magnus hatch, since it is the only one I can find rated CE Category A1. I'm not sure why Lewmar is only rated CE Category A2, but it is not...

Re: Escape Hatch vendors

This isn't an option at this point. I considered it. Our friend's boat they did just that.

Arrow Re: Escape Hatch vendors

I wish Goiot made a 507mm x 507 mm hatch, but they do not.

Escape Hatch vendors

Anybody know escape hatch manufacturers for a 20x20 inch hatch? I need Category A, Area I. Apparently Lewmar's best hatch, the Ocean 60 is only Cat A Area II. Vetus is the only other vendor I've...

Re: Need shaft coupler - any suppliers known?

The face is connected to a Drive Saver, which by its nature is a bit flexible. It is also a split coupling, so when the shaft is mated to the coupling, they will have to dissassemble the mated pair...

Re: Shore Power Circuit Breaker Tripping Often

Exactly! Big issue in this fricken yard because we don't have access to turn off the breakers while messing with power cords. It's not a normal pedestal, I'm connecting to a power shack. The...

Re: Shore Power Circuit Breaker Tripping Often

The switch has 3 positions. Shore Power, OFF, and Generator. The OFF position is supposed to disconnect the boat from power until you are sure it's all connected properly. Big issue in this...

Re: Shore Power Circuit Breaker Tripping Often

Yep, Blue Sea tech was ready to send out a ELCI test kit.. took me three times to tell him it's not the Red LED.

Re: Shore Power Circuit Breaker Tripping Often

The shore power cables were wiggled. My 50 ft cord attaches to the yard's 50 foot cord. That is the part that was 'wiggled' to get it to work, and the part that was disturbed on Friday when the...

Re: Shore Power Circuit Breaker Tripping Often

Thanks for the reply. Any idea how a phantom load would occur if my Shore Power selector is 'off'? It trips even if Shore Power is "Off".

Re: Shore Power Circuit Breaker Tripping Often

Thanks for the reply. This is actually a magnetic-hydraulic circuit breaker, so not heat, but over-current in general.

The issue with measuring is that 'initially' it all measures just fine,...

Shore Power Circuit Breaker Tripping Often

Long story short:
1. One month ago, an electrician installed a Blue Sea Systems ELCI 50 Amp circuit breaker replacing the old 50 Amp breakers. All was fine for two weeks on pedestal power,...

Re: Need shaft coupler - any suppliers known?

Many more replies, thanks to everyone!

First off, if we end up boring out, the prop shop wants my current shafts so they can 'mate up' the couplings. that involves a fairly involved process of...

Re: Need shaft coupler - any suppliers known?

I'm finding it hard to believe that all the boat manufacturers went back to Imperial sizes, but apparently so. 30 mm is an odd size in deed for today's boats. so much for the metric system.

Need shaft coupler - any suppliers known?

I need a 30 mm shaft coupler for a Yanmar/Kanzaki KM4A gear box. Any idea where to find a supplier? Google has led me to R&D Marine n England, and that's about all I can find. The boat is a 1995...

Hand Line end tackle options

For those of you that run hand lines, what is your end tackle? Leader, lures, hooks, skirts, etc?

From what I've read, in the Handbook for Cruisers, the end tackle needs to be beefier to...

Re: 6-pack sea time questions

Capt Marc, thanks for that info. 1 year seems limiting. That means I will have to wait until I get closer to acquiring the sea time to actually take the test.

Thanks for the info though,

6-pack sea time questions

I'm reading through the 'sea time' requirements, and I don't see anything about inland small lakes. From what I'm reading, I can count the days when I owned a small bass fishing boat on inland...
