You can build a cover out of pink board foam for your forward hatch pretty easy. We used metal tape to hold it together and bungies to hold it all down. Then used 4" insulated duct into the cabin.

Don't use marine wheel bearing grease on your rudder shaft or really anywhere on your actual boat. It is sticky and your wheel/rudder won't turn as freely or be responsive.

We needed a holding tank pump out system as our marina has a septic system for us to dump into but no pump out system :banghead:. So we built a system that we have named it the Honorary S**t Sucker...

I use the damprid refillable buckets from Home Depot. Can refill them for just a couple bucks with the bag. Has seemed to keep the boat dry so far.

The Catalina 30 is a coastal cruiser. I own one and wouldn't consider it a "far from shore" boat.
