Re: White stains on teak deck

Thanks - I was out at the boat today and noticed that these were on mostly the front half of the boat and worse towards the bow - almost as if they came from a wave washing over the bow. We were in...

White stains on teak deck

I’ve started seeing these white stains stains on our teak deck. Doesn’t look like normal mildew. Does anyone know what this is and how to remove them?

Re: Solar Panel Installation on Jeanneau 49

Update: The Blue Solar bluetooth monitor is great - really let's you know how much power the panels are producing. It does a three stage charge to the batteries - bulk, absorption and float. Each day...

Solar Panel Installation on Jeanneau 49

Just finished the solar panel install on our Jeanneau 49 and it's working great. We have six 100 watt semi-flexible panels mounted on the bimini in a series parallel configuration feeding through a...

Re: Mastervolt Whisper Ultra 6 won't start

I'm sure it was an expensive little fix - changing valves. We had a similar situation with our MV 8KW. It was professionally installed and the MasterVolt engineers at their office in Florida approved...

Re: Mastervolt Whisper Ultra 6 won't start

Not sure it you're still looking for answers but after 9 years of living with a MasterVolt 8KW unit with 1000 hours I've been through a lot.

I would check the following:

Fuel - verify that fuel...

Re: Solar Power for Hot Water

Hard to say, but I see your point. Either I get another 800 watts of solar and additional batteries or break down and run the generator in the AM. (We have a heat exchanger loop on the main engine...

Re: Solar Power for Hot Water

We presently have 400AH of MasterVolt AGM's. We're putting on 800 watts of solar panels for this season and then take that up to 1000 watts. We should be able to harvest around 270AH on a decent...

Re: Solar Power for Hot Water

It would probably be more efficient to do what we usually do - that is, run the generator in the morning to generate electricity to heat water, make coffee and charge batteries. Once you turn on the...

Re:Solar Power for Hot Water

On the subject of trying to go totally 'green' I haven't figured out what to do about the hot water heater. Seems a waste to run the generator to make hot water. I guess we could use the inverter for...

Re: MPPT solar controller: Morningstar Prostar v Tristar

I think you're correct about the generator. My mistake. Now that I think of it I have an 'AC' selector on the AC panel that let's me switch between the 30amp inlet, 50amp inlet, generator and 'off'....

Re: Solbian Solar Panels

Hi Dave - thanks - that's a wonderful wiring diagram. Thanks for sharing. I'll see if I can do something similar.

Re: MPPT solar controller: Morningstar Prostar v Tristar

Yes, I read the whole rant. Most of the issues he mentioned have either been corrected in the current manual or I pretty much figured out from studying the how the manual describes the device.

As...

Re: MPPT solar controller: Morningstar Prostar v Tristar

My plan is to use two of these Xantrex Echo Chargers to feed each of the secondary banks from the house bank. I think I can leave the diode isolator in place to be used for non-solar charging from...

Re: MPPT solar controller: Morningstar Prostar v Tristar

Thanks Jill - sounds like a great solution. I just read the manual on the Echo-Charger and I don't see any reason why I couldn't install two - one for each secondary battery bank.

Re: MPPT solar controller: Morningstar Prostar v Tristar

Glad I found this thread. I've been struggling to find a solar controller for the 800 watts of solar that we're installing on our bimini. The PV voltage should be approx 60 volts with Max current of...

Re: Solbian Solar Panels

OK - so what I figured out is that I need a solar controller with a battery voltage sensing wire. That gets around any issues with the isolator. Morningstar and Outback Power make solar controllers...
