Re: Wood Choices, types and locations....

One of the You Tube channel sailors replaced their old mast with a new one that they made on the boat with DF 2x material they sourced from Home Depot. They glued it all together with West System...

Re: Sailrite - Yes or No

I got one for Christmas this year and am pleased so far. I figured I better learn how to use it before we take off to go cruising. It is a fare bit heavier than I anticipated but it works well. I...

Re: Yanmar 4JHE oil pressure collapse.

A mechanical oil pressure gauge if it has one could be the problem. I've seen several develop holes in the feed lines. They will pump a lot of oil out of your engine quickly.

Re: Newborn saftey

For an infant I would make a way to secure the car seat down below. Anything else has the potential to send them flying. As soon as they are crawling its going to be Harness time. I also wouldn't...

Re: Towing a Large Sailboat

Pretty much what everybody else has said. The weight is a non issue with the correct truck. I have a 40' toy hauler that weighs 14k with water and no toys. In Az. the non commercial limit is 28k....

Re: Has anyone ever deployed their man overboard pole? Are they becoming obsolete?

Also attaching it to the life sling kind of defeats the purpose. If the sails are full and the person on board can't get the boat turned in time the pole is just being drug along and isn't marking...

Re: Significant trailer challenge...

Depending on your axles its pretty easy. Go to a local trailer supply. In Phoenix I use Auto Safety House but every city has something. Take in your axle model number and they should be able to give...

Re: What a waste

Its sad. Almost any Marina in the Country has at least a couple. I can't help think if they would donate the boats before they get to bad how many sailors dreams would come true? I know we are saving...

Re: Significant trailer challenge...

I bought a Catalina 22 with a fixed keel on Coronado Island Ca. a couple of years ago. I picked up a bass boat trailer for $150 in Az. and drove to San Diego with steel and my welder. It took most of...

Re: Affordable Camera, what's your favorite?

Another vote for the Fuji film fine pix. Its around $125 at Costco. Waterproof to 50 feet and drop proof for like 5. I take mine canyoneering and it gets drug on rocks, smashed against the water when...

Re: What to do with old sail?

In addition to all the great ideas about donating sails. I like to keep some large pieces on board for the time honored tradition of burial at sea! Its more respectful to wrap the body before sending...

Re: Hearing Aids for the cruising sailor?

Great thread. As a career construction worker I have significant hearing loss and know that its only a matter of time before I have to bite the bullet and get a set. We are about 9 years away from...

Re: Inflatable SUP

Just like anything you get what you pay for. A cheap inflatable won't last. I have an NRS board that I would highly recommend. None of the inflatables will be as fast as an epoxy board. The payoff is...

Re: compression post selection

Not sure what yours came with originally. I made a new one for my Catalina 22. I wanted it to look nice and be much stronger than the original. I laminated redwood together to get it to the size I...

Re: Is Teak Decks a deal breaker for you

Excellent question. I'm in the same boat and have kind of come to the conclusion about the glued vs screwed. I would prefer not to have them but I think I would consider a boat that was exactly what...

Re: Tall Tales from the Shopping Trail

Its unfortunate but it seems to be across the board with salesmen. You have to weed out the good ones from the bad. I think the hope is that if they can get you in the door there is a chance they can...

Re: Hit and Run in St Maarten

Here's a free bump. Good luck finding the guy. Hopefully this thread will be brought to his attention and he will make good on your agreement. I don't blame you for using every means at your disposal...

Re: What Is This Ketch?

The boat in the add is "Lost Soul". It was owned by Bob Bitchin the old owner of Latitudes and Attitudes. I don't think the one the OP posted is the same boat. It does look like a Formosa. They are...

Re: Glue for inflatable dinghy

The best advice so far is going to NRS. Another option is Cascade river outfitters. As a former commercial white water raft guide I've repaired lots of rafts, both hypalon and Pvc. Good repairs on...

Re: Best hammock?

I have the Eno double as well. Super durable and SOOO comfy! Took me a couple of trys to figure out the correct tension to suit myself but I love it.
