Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

I know of several people now who have successfully navigated it, I don't know that it's all that bad. Alaska in my experience during fishing season was always terrible with spots of okay, compared to...

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

I was last posting in March, still here, though I keep downsizing my plan and looking at different types of boats so I can figure out how to get what I need in the smallest possible price tag without...

Re: Life choices

Eh. If I paid heed with cautious reasoning like that I'd of never made it to Japan. :)

The biggest problem is logistical. The used boat market here is not suitable for large recreational ocean...

Re: Life choices

5-7 years is a long time, but the good news is that I can probably pick up a Gemini Legacy 35 or something similar next year for coastal and short haul cruising in the meanwhile.

This way when I...

Re: Life choices

To give you some clue about how senior non-management engineering type job transfers work, or at least have worked for me, when I moved to Japan from the U.S. I had 3 months of preparation time and...

Re: Life choices

That's good to know with Perry, though I just asked them a few questions last week and got a response.

I knew about lightwave but not freeflow. Any other multihull builders of note in .au?

Re: Life choices

To answer points so far;

I can't make a decision on a used boat until I hit cash in hand. I tend to project things using suboptimal means; a used boat that meets my requirements is a better deal,...

Life choices

I'm going to start this out by saying that Tokyo real estate is expensive. Especially in Central Tokyo. For a 1300 square foot house you're looking at about $900,000 USD.

Re: Hello from Tokyo!

I'm mostly doing some life planning around the concept of not buying a house in Tokyo.

I feel like $900,000 could be better spent on a motorsailer I may live-aboard so I'm trying to find someone...

Hi,

I'm an American living abroad in Tokyo.

I came here looking to solicit input from more experienced sailors on life choices related to boats I don't need but kinda want to have.
