Re: Fly infestation, Eastern Chesapeak

Be glad they were not the biting type fly. Green head, black flies, gnats, or some of the others.

Re: Horrible Guests, Terrible Crew

Interesting thread. I will return later to finish the read. My question, if there is a written, emailed, or other agreement, how is it enforced? Walk the plank? If so I want to help.

Re: New cruising restrictions in Georgia (USA)

I'm with dooglas and boat driver. I think it is about protecting the environment. don't anchor in sensitive area, don't **** in the water. unfortunate that such regulations are needed. it will soon...

Re: Is there harmful EMR from DC systems?

The head protection, often referred to as tin foil hats, but actually made with aluminum foil, must be connected to the ground plane to be effective. I have mine wired with a clip I can hook to any...

Re: Is there harmful EMR from DC systems?

It is a well known fact, every living being exposed to gravitational fields will die.

Re: Duracell 8Ds, Sams Club, $199

Duracell golf cart at B+B and Sam's come in two sizes GC2 and EGC2. Go the extra bucks for the EGC2.

Re: Input on 12v battery / charging / wiring

One of your questions. Put the catastrophic fuse as close to the battery positive as you can. That would be at the house bank and another at the engine battery if the cable runs further than just the...

Re: Victron BMV-700 settings for solar

Maine Sail has a couple of articles on the Victron. Hard to find on his new site. Here;; https://marinehowto.com/programming-a-battery-monitor/

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

Yes. John has it. Also, I want products that are easier to find on most markets. That is not specialized 2 volt cells.

Re: Wiring In Series (pro vs con)

You do realize every lead acid battery is just 2 volt cells connected in series? I would be very interested in which 2 volt cells do not fail.

Re: ANL Fuse/holder getting real hot

DC circuit fuses protect the wire or cable from the fantastic amperage available from the battery.

Re: ANL Fuse/holder getting real hot

I hope none have washers between the contact surfaces of their electrical shtuf. Lug to lug or lug to post. or lug to anything else you may dream up for sake of argument. Where can I buy those...

Re: ANL Fuse/holder getting real hot

DC. Use the proper sized wire for least voltage drop. Use a fuse sized to the capacity of the wire. That is the only correct choice. AC. Use breaker for the output required. 15amp, 20amp, 30amp....

Re: ANL Fuse/holder getting real hot

If there are washers on a terminal they must be in the position that NO current will pass through the washer. Not any kind of metal.

Re: Where do I put my Shunt?

With the shunt at point 'A' all the current to and from the battery will be measured, even if the alternator negative is to the block. The block negative returns to the battery through point 'A'.

Re: ANL Fuse/holder getting real hot

There should be no washers between the fuse holder and cable lugs. I can see a 425A rated fuse get warm to hot when reaching 400 amps. I would try a new fuse.

Re: Where do I put my Shunt?

My alternator only connects positive to the battery. The negative is through the engine to the battery. If you are taking any positives from the alternator, with separate negatives as well, you don't...

Re: Induction cook-top and inverter compatibility

Re: 4 six volts better than 2 twelve volts

Two six volt batteries have 6 cells. Two 12 volt batteries have 12 cells, so that is not a comparison. 4 six volt GC2 batteries are better than any two 12 volt batteries in the similar size foot...

Re: Charging Lead-Acid Batts with Very Small Charger

I did not have a sump pump. I drilled a drain hole to get the water out. Now I don't need a sump pump. And it saves on docking fees.

Re: Pairing circuit breaker to wire to load

Yes, fuses do have a voltage drop. Smaller amp fuses have more voltage drop than higher amp. That is another argument for using the larger fuse sized to the gauge of the wire. mainesail has page...

Re: Pairing circuit breaker to wire to load

After reading here all about voltage drop, wire capacity, and do smaller fuses have more voltage drop? I guess the original lights did not glow.
I would have thought 18AWG marine grade would carry...
