Suggest going to Edson and seeing the specs on the simplex, is oversized for the boat and has been tried and true for 100 years. Working a tiller handle while crossing a ocean also comes with issues....

A Edson Simplex 372-0 worm drive on top of the vertical rudder shaft, the rudder is wood. Hinged with bronze on the lower half, the shaft makes a bend and is mortised into the rudder along with being...

Just google "PSSG Meetup" It's a very active sailing site with 1,200 members and just limited to the Puget Sound.. Sometimes we also have group boat get togethers. I'll be sorry to no longer be...

I'll be leaving mid January 2013 and looking for crew to join in with legs of the trip or for the whole trip. Plans are to stay near the coast and keep a good eye on the weather without time...

Colin, I'm planning on sailing South sometime in January 2013. I'm looking for sea worthy crew to get me down to Mexico, someone to come aboard just for a few weeks would also be a help. Tom
