Re: Flooding at the dock

I don't know if it was fresh or salt because I didn't taste it. If you saw the Houston/Clear Lake water, you'd not taste it either. That's a gastro-intestinal meltdown in that soup.

It was...

Re: Flooding at the dock

That was on of my thoughts, that it had somehow begun to siphon back into the boat. But the cockpit drains are above all of it and clear so I figure that would act like a siphon break. Wouldn't it?

Re: Flooding at the dock

That's a good question. When we took it out it looked like it ran pretty cleanly BUT ...

The discharge hose in my boat (Morgan 43) runs from the bilge and into the engine room into the drain...

Flooding at the dock

Well, not really flooding but there was about 8 gallons of water in the bilge. I know because I bailed it with a bucket, way faster than the manual pump. Making it seem like a big deal was the...

Re: Algae growth in AC intake filter

By the way, I did find this blog posting (https://gilwellbear.wordpress.com/2013/07/09/ac-raw-water-loop-cleaning/). Sounds pretty reasonable.

Re: Algae growth in AC intake filter

Thanks Sailmonkey. I do keep the AC off during the week (I have a separate dehumidifier). Never any issues with seals or anything degrading when you used a bromine tablet? Sounds like you kept one...

Algae growth in AC intake filter

When I get back to the boat on Friday's, the AC intake filter is completely clogged due to some kind of algae growth (very nasty smelling too). I can clean that out easily enough but I am noticing...

Re: I can't stop the leaks!

No doubt my technique is a little off - after all, I've never done it before. I'm sure by the time I'm through with the job ( at port 11 ) I'll have it down.

Re: WANTED: Owners time in the BVI - Feb 2015

I gotta dig into this! So no web sites where we can connect owners and renters? I'm going to look at some time share sites, see what's there.

Re: I can't stop the leaks!

I'm using the butyl from Maine Sailor, good stuff. I finally have all but one leak fixed - of course, it's coming through in such a way I can't tell where it started. It's been a week or so, I need...

I can't stop the leaks!

:banghead:

<rant>
replaced my ports with new stainless steel ones from Newfound Metals and I can't get the leak(s) stopped. I chased down many, used about 3 times as much butyl tape as I...

Re: WANTED: Owners time in the BVI - Feb 2015

I am interested in how this works. I know owners with boats in charter will get something like 12 weeks a year, can they "sublet" that time to you? It sounds like a conflict of interest between the...

Re: Popping and Ripping Sound

It most definitely is not marine life snacking on the hull. I know what that sounds like and this ain't it. When I tell you it's loud, I mean loud. Sometimes like a hammer blow to the deck, sometimes...

Popping and Ripping Sound

I'm on a different boat this week for a little vacation, a Mahe 36 catamaran. Pretty nice except the cabin in the starboard hull is essentially unusable due to the noise being made. It's a very loud...

Re: In Mast Furling

I was all about getting a in mast furling for out boat but we got, in my opinion, very lucky to get a boat that had in boom furling. I *love* it. We also have a power winch. The big deal for us...

Vents to engine room

I was doing a little work around the engine room this weekend and just casually looked at the 2 cowl vents on the starboard side that have ducting running down into the engine room. I was curious...

Re: Mast is buzzing

The winds have died, as soon as it starts back up, I'll be listening. I do see some slack in the shrouds on the side the sail is on - about as much as I was expecting.

It could be too tight after...

Re: Mast is buzzing

Thanks guys....

It is a in boom furling system (profurl) and whatever it is sounds like it runs nearly the length of the mast. The standing rigging was tightened but not more than a couple of...

Mast is buzzing

I recently got new running rigging and had the mast and standing rigging "tuned" (a little inversion and the boat gad sat for several years before I got it). Everything works so much better now, the...

Re: Nav Station Design Ideas

The only thing I can say about cubbies is one good roll and you empty them. We have a cubbie in the galley that has what looks like a drawer front on on it so it can close and looks good. I really...
