Re: Odyssey Time Zero Nobeltec System
I upgraded to Odyssey as well, under some pressure in order to get charts for our Pacific Crossing. We sailed the past couple of years using VNS 10 with no problems, and received our upgrade package... |

Re: Panama Outboard Boat Licences
But rape and pillage on boats in the anchorage, followed by this, will stop people from coming here. this is not a fee, it is a decoy to take the cruisers attention away from the lack of security... |

Re: Panama Outboard Boat Licences
Correct!! And after a boarding, robbery and rape in the anchorage, of which no authority joined our cruisers net to give us updates, now they break in to tell us our courtesy flags are dirty, and... |

Re: Panama Outboard Boat Licences
True, that apparently has been the arrangement for years, as the resident small boat owners tell us. The cruisers here are aware of that. What was presented this morning was that the rule now... |

Re: Panama Outboard Boat Licences
Yes, our port captian was apparently interviewed by Mr. Winner of the Panama Guide, and denied that he said anything that he said on the VHF cruisers net this morning. There were 30 or so on the net... |

Re: Panama Outboard Boat Licences
We would have been out of here after the boarding last week, if it we were not waiting on some boat parts to arrive. We are in agreement, we are out of here ASAP - San Blas and then the canal here we... |

Re: Panama Outboard Boat Licences
I might add that during the VHF cruisers net this morning where the port captain stated this new requirement, he also indicated that they were going to start mandating that those boats flying a worn... |

Re: Panama Outboard Boat Licences
Don't know... he may have been mis-interpreting, although I will have to admit he was very clear that his superiors told him exactly what to say. There is a representative group of us that are trying... |

Re: Panama Outboard Boat Licences
The in transit thing apparently is the big change, as well as the amount. But yes, specifically it applies to in transit we are being told. |

Re: Panama Outboard Boat Licences
Another thing to add, the license fee is for the person, not the boat, so every person that drives the dinghy has to have a license. Since my wife takes the dinghy out, that means for us it would be... |

Re: Panama Outboard Boat Licences
According to the port captain this morning, it is a nationwide thing, but being rolled out in this area first (don't know that I believe it). Apparently mainland officials are here next week to do... |

Re: Violent crime in Bocas del Toro
Cute, loved your response. Of course wearing a T shirt for 3 days is a broad joke about us sailors (they came into port with a T shirt and a $20 bill and never changed either one of them!). Yep, you... |

Re: Violent crime in Bocas del Toro
I suppose this thread has been largely tapped out, but I wish to add another comment.... In the posts, Panama has been both described as a third world country, and an underdeveloped country... for... |

Re: Violent crime in Bocas del Toro
Well said, and the BEN network is great... Now I would not read too much into the presidential plane being here. There was a major political rally for the Prez's party here on Sunday, that he was... |

Re: Violent crime in Bocas del Toro
Thank you for the kind reply, and the advice, well taken. We have been sailing around the eastern and western Caribbean for a few years, in addition to the US east coast. We observe this, and other... |

Re: Violent crime in Bocas del Toro
Unfortunately the locals buy more booze everynight than us cheap cruisers, so I dont' see any flaunting on that topic. You might wish to check out "Floating Doctors", a US based charitable free... |

Re: Violent crime in Bocas del Toro
Interesting to review the discussion about this horrible event. There certainly is a lot of good thought, and unfortunately some un-informed comments. As mentioned by "youmeandthed", they, us and... |
