You seem knowledgeable about the questions I have, and I am hoping that you might be able to help me?
My wife and I are moving to Caye Caulker, BZ in a few years. We have a lot on the island, and will probably buy a good-sized boat to live on while we take our time and build a home.
I don't know much about big boats. I have been thinking about buying a boat in FL, TX or MX and piloting it down to the island. Putt around in it, and live on it.
I would need something that can stand up to those trips, and be large enough to handle the seas and live aboard for a couple, comfortably.
I am looking at a power boat, I assume 50' or larger, twin diesels. Any suggestions or opinions?
I have none (experience). Been thinking about it, but it looks like a MAJOR job!
I assume you need to pull your engines anyway?
Whet engines do you have?
When do you plan to do the work?
I am Canadian also and have a place in Cornwall, ON. Might come down and see how hard/easy it is.
I have a friend from the TO area who has studied the whole keel bolt issue. I'll talk to him about your project. He has a SV here in Freeport but spends most of his time in Canada.
I am about to start (I think) a major refit to my Idylle. So I will be asking a lot of questions and suggestions.
