1977 Catalina 27 “Tall Rig” $9,800

The Catalina Tall Rig has a taller mast and a bowsprit to provide an anchor point for the forestays. The Tall Rig mast is about 18 inches taller than the standard rig, thus permitting greater sail area and speed. Distance from the waterline to the masthead is 39.8 ft.

I bought this Catalina, the Bijou, in 2016 and sailed it from Alameda up to the San Joaquin Delta where it is now harbored at a Ryer Island marina with easy access to the Rio Vista Bridge, the Sacramento Deep Water Channel, and lots of Delta sloughs and by-ways where steady winds and overnight anchorages are common. The Bijou is rigged for single- handling, if you want time to yourself; but sleeps five or six mates if you want a fun day and evening with friends to help handle sailing chores and relieve you at the helm.

The Bijou has the usual complement of gear necessary to ensure safe sailing adventures plus additional items not normally found on a boat of this vintage. These include:

Roller furling, for deploying jib from cockpit
