Aboard from Overseas

Hi,

Just a quick introduction,

I'm a 32 year old sailor with my own little yacht that is a bit of a work in progress (aren't they all..) It's a Maxi 77, a slightly odd but comfy and quick Swedish plastic 25-footer.

Odd in its somewhat chined narrowish hull shape and bulb keel, with IOR-style masthead rig and a huge foretriangle (well, for a 25-footer that is).

I've already changed out the saildrive propshaft seals, the big leg seal and resealed most of the deck fittings. Then installed new winches, stoppers and rearranged the cabin roof to a more modern layout. Used to have five cleats and a central winch on the mast side (!) of the cleats (how am I supposed to use THAT?) ; now I have the winch repositioned at the very edge of the roof where a cleat once was, then a set of stoppers where the winch used to be. Much better. To port of the halyard winch, a few cam cleats now hold the trim lines. I've left two cleats on starboard of the winch, for later replacement perhaps. I've also upgraded to self-tailing sheet winches, a two speed halyard winch and am installing some modern electronics.

Then I built a new masthead to make room for all-rope halyards and an off-center spinnaker crane that will no longer chafe the forestay.

Now all it needs is new windows and some interior work, basically repairs of the damage that was done by leaving a sizeable number of leaks untreated for a bit too long. Oh, and all new wiring, but electronics is one of my other hobbies, so I'm not in the least worried about that one.

Just dreading the sticky vinyl job...

Marcel
