Hello Gary

I am, german and chilean and live here, on the Chiloe Island( Exactly Chacao Canal), and got my boat in the US, and have some experience with your questions..

The 12 first months you can stay without problem.
Just renew the papers every 90 days.

After that, you pay the taxes or try to sale you boat.
Taxes al not high, depending, where it was build (origen certificate)
Its a little long to explain, but easy.

Even, if you want to leave your boat here, I will help you.

We need people, who loves sailing, here, (with strong weather), in the Chilean Patagonia.

Re: Temporary Import Permit for Chile

We have anchored a couple times (including in the dark) in Puerto Ingles (just below the Corona lighthouse). Has always been pretty decent.

We left the boat at marina del sur - in the water - water is so cold there is pretty much no marine growth, quick dive scrub in spring and all good. They gave us a good deal, bit more expensive than the other two options but not much, and nice facility.

Patagonia was our favorite cruising ground in while world, by a pretty long shot. Hmmm, but the weather is pretty terrible - be prepared for that. (as our irish friends say - at least the weather keeps the tourists away)

When I first arrived in Chile the 'Declaracion de Admisión Temporal' was only good for 4 months but could still be renewed up to a maximum of 2 years.

That changed in, I think, about 2007/8.....

Now your 'Declaracion de Admisión Temporal' is good for 12 months and can be renewed for another 12....

To reset the clock your boat then has to leave Chile... but a few days in Ushuaia
works and you are then good for another 12 + 12 ...

The '90 days' is how long the crew can stay in country for......

If you so choose you can sort that with 'temporary residency'.. but few bother..
