Engines and gearboxes

Hi Ladies and Gents,

Appreciate any info on the following engine and its reduction gearbox

Engine : Ford/Lehman 2712E (85hp) Serial D8909/12
Transmission : 2.57:1 reduction, velvet drive Model 10-17-012 Serial=851

how reliable is this unit?
does anyone have the instruction manuals on these equipments.

In 1984, I had a 43', 35,000 lb boat built. I had the choice of engines and dId substantial research. I chose the Ford/Lehman engine as was used worldwide as a tractor engine...speaks to reliability and parts would be easy to acquire on a world cruise.
Mine was a 90hp...pretty much the same as the 80hp, but with a chrome valve cover!
Velvet drive transmissions are reliable as well. Still this is an older engine, something to consider. I would lean heavily towards a Beta engine if I were in the market...FWIW...
The manual is available for download online...Google is your friend...I saw some articles on preventive maintenance while I looked.
