"Bollocks" /ˈ b ɒ l ə k s / is a word of Anglo-Saxon origin, meaning "testicles". The word is often used figuratively in British English and Hiberno-English as a noun to mean "nonsense", an expletive following a minor accident or misfortune, or an adjective to mean "poor quality" or "useless". Similarly, the common phrases "Bollocks to this!" or "That's a load of old bollocks" generally indicate contempt for a certain task, subject or opinion. Conversely, the word also figures in idiomatic phrases such as "the dog's bollocks", "top bollock(s)", or more simply "the bollocks" (as opposed to just "bollocks"), which will refer to something which is admired, approved of or well-respected.

it comes to something when we, as adults, or is that really 'older' persons correct the spelling of slang terms in an attempt to prove our maturity and knowledge.

For the less educated among us (that is, those that dont refer to wikepedia), Hiberno-English means Irish. I was based in southern Ireland for the longest time and on reflection, I can state categorically that bollocks was, is and an accepted and acceptable word in everyday usage. At first I took deep offence when the word was added to conversation from sweet young things and mature grannies, but after a year of being there, it was the LEAST offensive of words in every day conversation. I should also mention that my fathers side was Irish.

I have absolutely no idea why I brought this up.

I think atoll, Blue Crab and myself are carrying the weight and responsibility for boatie until he can log on and continue his own brand of salt flavoured conversation.

Then you will all appreciate us for our restraint!

Boatie is a delivery skipper. Skippers don't get paid to lounge in transit ports. Fuel up move on.

However, in enjoying a few days off, I have to give thanks to all who have made it so enjoyable a time spent in reading comments, following fights and being remonstrated with and by.. I havent laughed so much in ages. We must not take life seriously except the serious things.

I would gladly crew for a lot of you and be the captains bitch for some....... and others, well I guess I would be put ashore at the first port.

If I have upset, or ticked anyone off during my ramblings, I want to say how much Im not offended by these types of responses to my posts.

Im OK.. really, I can live with it.
