How to copy a route

Is there a way to copy a route and name rename it leaving the original unchanged. I did read the manual but found nothing about this subject. Certain passages I use and then branch off to get to oter locations so would like to start with a common route. Also just to play with different routes I would like to copy one and use it to build an alternative destination. Thanks
