Ovitalmaps a terrific solution to Offline Google Earth

We are big fans of opencpn and Google earth charts using GE2kap. About 6 months ago some friends turned us onto ovitalmaps that run on ipad or android devices.

We really love it’s ease of use and the “zoom in” and it’s saved feature. Having google earth offline when cruising makes great sense and it’s another tool in hand for the navigator.

Recently we used ovitalmaps to zoom in on google earth for the entires Societies in French Polynesia and it took about 20-30 minutes on reasonable internet.

Not having to save the charts each time you zoom into a new location(the app does it for you) makes it easy to use

Headed to the tropics with lagoons loaded with coral bommies you will find using GE a huge help.

Oh yeah it’s a free app!

Safe sailing

Not sure what height you used but to do half a dozen of the islands with GE2KAP took me 5 minutes. So what's the big benefit of OvitalMaps?

And its free too.

Hi Paul

First we are huge fans of GE2KAP and pass on that info to everyone we meet. We find the ease of ovital maps with less than stellar internet to be extremely easy and basically we just look and its saved.

For example we made similar charts with GEKAP and it took us about 5 hours with less zoom level where as with Ovital maps it was much much quicker and a much higher resolution.

We are NOT saying do not use GE2KAP but rather using Ovital Maps as a compliment.

Thanks again for all you do for the cruisers.... Much appreciated

Chuck

Re: Ovitalmaps a terrific solution to Offline Google Earth

Well maybe things are not so rosy in French Polynesia.

After loading and using our ipad with Ovital Maps I have noticed many of our GE saved images on Ovital Maps have disappeared.

Questions

1. Have any of you experienced this same issue of loosing saved images? If so what can you do to prevent loss of these images in Ovital Maps?

2. Does anyone have the documentation / manual on Ovital Maps that includes what all the various settings are for? I would like to learn more about this product. Have tried Mr Google but have come up with nothing.

I can live without the docs but the images disappearing are a big issue for me.

3. Is there a forum or contact email for ovital maps that is not in chinese?

Any help would be appreciated .

Thanks

Chuck

Reposting hoping someone with a similar issue has an answer for me. The GE images seem to disappear from my Ipad app after a period of time. I have put some messages on on the Ovital Maps forum but have not received a answer I could understand.
