Well there goes my great business idea...

Thanks for the link. They're just over the water from both you and I (in different directions).

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Steve, interesting that your result with the Rocna is remarkably similar to my experience. I bit the bullet and bought an Excell and am much happier.
Thanks for the work done on testing so many anchors and presenting the results in an objective and unbiased manner.

I'm not sure what I would by if I were shopping for a Primary anchor today. Certainly, the Mantus is a very compelling option given the price and brilliant performance in my tests. However, I continue to wish the Mantus had just a little bit more meat on it's bones. It looks like a gangly teenager to my eye. I do plan on a trip to Alaska one day and the possibility of the Anchor getting hung up in boulders is not out of the question. I want a very strong anchor.

Perhaps I'm being unreasonable or weird about this but my gut as served me well in the past and I am not going to start ignoring it now.

Steve

Steve: thank you very much for that and all your work testing. Anyone wanting more information on the Excel or Super Sarca is welcome to check our website at www.groundtackle.com or email us at sales@groundtackle.com
Again, thank you!
Nick

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Nick,

Thanks to you the AnchorRight anchors are finally available in North America

I hope you have plans to get them displayed at the boatshows so they get the exposure they have always deserved.

Once there are more cruisers trying these anchors it will become evident how good they are. AnchorRight are really, really good at what they do.

Best of luck to you guys.

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Bigbeakie,
Thanks for the encouragement and positive comments.
This all started when researching the best anchor for my Cal 2/46. Just too many sleepless nights. Chris my business partner having just returned from a few years offshore had more scary anchor stories.
The Excel just kept getting gold stars so Rex sent me one. I couldn't be happier, they just work for so many reasons.
Before you know it we are in the anchor business. We just received our first shipment, getting them out to folks that have patiently waited.
To answer your question; Our season is well underway up here, we missed the spring boat shows but plan to get it out there in person. Apparently not every boater reads cruisers forum as much as we all do.

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Remember those crabs that appeared in many of the Video's? We just ate three of them. Traps were set in the anchor test area. Sorry, no video.

Yum.

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

I spent a couple nights at one of my favorite coves swinging in light winds to the 44 pound Steel Spade anchor.

In the Salish sea, vegetation can be be heavy when water depth is less than 20 feet and this spot is a prime example. High tide depth was about 16 feet and low tide was about 6 feet.

The anchor set rapidly from a 1 knot backdown and held 3,000 RPM reverse power (sorry, no video footage of the set).

I attached the GoPro camera to a telescoping boat-hook and was able to scan the bottom thoroughly from Panope's foredeck. Unfortunately, we cannot see the anchor until it is raised out of the weeds.

Steve

Panope:

You say you were at 3:1. If you were in
16 high and 6 low, what would you
consider 3:1?

(Just to avoid confusion, I'll mention that jongleur is asking about the Spade Anchor test #64)

jongleur, The scope was 3:1 when the tide was high.

Steve's videos of his anchor tests get a mention in the latest issue of Afloat (download your copy from http://www.afloat.com.au/afloat-maga...e-august-2016; turn to page 71) in conjunction with Anchor Right Australia promoting its SARCA Excel anchor at the Sydney International Boat Show.
