cruisersforum advertising taking up entire screen

Does anyone else browse this forum with a mobile and reliably get ads that take up the entire screen with no way to close it (without closing the web page and reloading the entire page...only for it to happen again)?

at the very top of the screen you can see a white line with a handful of pixels worth of forum thread visible; not enough to click on.

It's the number one reason I navigate away from this unusable website. On the pc it's fine. I am on android using the mobile version of the website. This behavior is not new at least within the past half a year+

I am on an android phone but do not use the app version, I select the PC version so have no issues at all.

I use Tapatalk to view forums on my tablet. There are a few ads, but never obtrusive.

I use an iPad and iPhone and access CF through the app. No advertisements that I can recall.

Yes and it was annoying enough I went to the trouble of installing an ad blocker

As someone who's paycheck for the past 25 years comes from advertising, I don't care. I will do everything I can to remove ads from my life, whether TV, Radio, Streaming video, or browsing the web.

Advertising causes brain damage.

Pete

I already support CF by producing content for free.

I never use mobile to look at forums or even browse random sites - the amount of ads is insane. They make the web useless on a mobile.

On the desktop - all ads are removed. I will quite a site rather than look at ads.

Sorry Pete but I started using an adblocker awhile back because the site's ads were so misbehaved.

I will give it another chance so you can get those sails you want.

Yes, I find the browser version on my phone almost impossible because of the ads. I use the app, no ads at all.

Re: cruisersforum advertising taking up entire screen

I use Brave Browser on all my devices, Android and PC. It's an open source fork of Google Chrome and operates nearly the same. There are no popup ads, ever, on any website. Unlike Chrome it does not record your browsing history anywhere except to your own account and your history, bookmarks, etc are available on all you devices if you desire. That said, if everyone started using ad blockers, the Internet as we know it would cease to exist. Websites are expensive and they have to get paid somehow.

I use Tapatalk in my mobile, which has limited ads which never get in the way of content. On my browser I block all ads, but more importantly, I block all trackers and snoopers. CF, like most websites, is loaded with these hidden spies.

It’s certainly true that there is a cost to running websites and forums, but there was a time when the Internet was operated as a public trust, and ALL advertising was banned (except in a few narrow zones).

The Internet of those days wasn’t as glitzy as it is today, but it was no less functional. There were sailing forums, lists and discussion groups before CF. But commercial entities have taken over the previous public space, in the pursuit of private profit.

Honestly I wouldn't have bothered but as mentioned the site was literally unusable with the full screen ads - nowhere to close them and even refreshing doesn't get rid of them

I use DuckDuckGo for this site in particular because of the giant ads on the mobile browser. DuckDuckGo completely blocks them.
