Re: Akl Anniversary 2010 Gennaker Sail

Hi, Just wondering, Is this a Shawn Arbour boat? I'm new on here but my friend had the very first boat of this style that Shawn designed, at that time a 31footer that we raced in the 1980 Brisbane to Gladstone and then on to the Hamilton Island series (when they use to accepted Multis). Was a great boat not the fastest multihull around but it went like a train to windward and would outpoint most racing monohulls (much to their suprise). I've just retired back into sailing and have a 38ft Crowther Windspeed that I'm living on (still reasonably quick but all the liveaboard gear slows it down). Anyway just thought I'd comment on yours as if it is anywhere as good as my mates I'm sure your delighted with the performance and their a great looking boat.
Regards
Ray

Hi Ray - never saw your message (well don't think I ever replied!)... Yes it is an Arber design and build - think it was the last boat Shaun built and was his biggest I believe - I bought 2nd hand .. Yes they do sail well- I did our biggest coastal race (numbers wise) the Coastal Classic 2 years ago and we clocked 24 knots which isn't bad for a cruiser.took it around the Pacific last year and 200 nm days were the norm plus it is such a light airy boat and a delight to cruise in. Next year am planning to sail to Tahiti which will be a 6 month adventure ..hope you are having fun with your boat and fair winds..sorry about the delayed response !!
Cheers
Paul
