Re: Bright Eyes Cleat

Not to fuss about it but I was taught that all lines must be adjustable from the boat. Is that idea obsolete?

Re: Bright Eyes Cleat

Sort of a bit late reply but ... . This is a bow line cleat that is adjustable from the dock. The picture is at our dock so it needs to be adjustable on the dock during storm surges. The other 5 (other bow, 2 aft and 2 mid) are adjustable on the boat as the lines are fixed to the pylons in the slip. We have three feet of tide here and storms can easily make that 5 ft. In these times it is dangerous enough being on the dock without having to scale up to the boat in a surge. At 5 ft of tide the dock goes under water. The short finger pier is not easy to access the boat in favorable conditions let alone a surge or in darkness.

Some details on the cleat include. The picture is of a 5/8 inch dock line so the scale may be deceptive. It really is a monster cleat. In addition to the two through bolts on top there are three more covered by the dockiline across the bottom of the fitting. These are obviously bronze but the ones on new boats are now flashy stainless.
