It's in the Chesapeake Bay, like you're heading out to sea!!

Not quite it's south of Annapolis, MD and a long way from the sea, but close to a shoal. One of the last of these types of lights left and clearly an icon of the Chesapeake. To me Thomas Point is more significant and clearly more omnious as it marks the entrance to the Potomac River on the south.
Many of the "screw pile" lights have already been sold to private parties as they don't even show on charts except as a marker. A light just like Thomas Pointe is now on land. This was the former Drum Point light house in Solomons Islands, MD. None of them really are required any more and most are actually gone and replaced with just an automated light you hardly notice in the day time.
A lot of the oldest ones are in danger of being lost. New Point Comfort near us is hanging on the edge of destruction. The land is eroding away around it.
