Despite the initial gripes, the subsequent explanation, and the conclusion that he had selected the right spot, it was not at all clear to me, and I think others as well. I did a bit of checking, the information may be incorrect or incomplete, but maybe it will provide a framework for those with more knowledge to correct or supplement.
The category selected seems to have been, "Boats for Sale and Wanted." I went to the category by using Forum Jump which is found just after the latest post in this thread. First I noted there had been several posts, in addition to the subject post, all mad today, and many more over an extended period. So YachtBroker had done it correctly.
Now the
parts that are entirely speculative on my part. It would seem that posts such YB's would receive far fewer responses if just left as the original post. Some receive none at all. By a methodology completely beyond anything I am privy to, someone or some group ((moderators or?) selects certain posts for additional viewing and commentary (often commentary because it is a way, and may be the only way, of easily being informed of new posts to an item of interest. Anyway these selected posts are sent to subscribers by
email (I have no
recall of how or when this occurred for me, but I am glad it did). I also wonder if there is a way to knew when new posts on a particular item occur if you have not yourself been a poster to it. One thing that does happen, interest does build activity, and being a selected OP definitely builds the number of replies.
Wish I knew more, but I don't. [here I'd insert a head scratching smilie if we had one]
