for sale claiming “ready to cruise”, “perfect liveaboard”, “ready for your circumnavigation”. When we bought “Prelude”, that’s more or less what the listing said. Well, three years later, we’ve learned that “Ready to sail away!” is apparently… subjective. “Prelude” is genuinely ready to roll. We’ve been
living aboard and sailing her some 2,000 miles over the last two years as a
family of four safely, comfortably, and enjoying an incredible life!
Immediately following our
purchase, we spent a year completely refitting the
boat. When I say
refit, I don’t mean bought some new gadgets. Virtually every system on the
boat has been replaced and upgraded with
safety, durability, and extensive
offshore work in mind. We didn't just replace the components, the installations were meticulously upgraded as per
current standards, and in many cases beefed up to accommodate common anecdotal failures.
The boat has a spacious and sensible three
cabin layout with
storage for days - a rarity for a boat like this. She sleeps eight in three comfortable double cabins and a drop down in the
salon, and HAS comfortably entertained twelve for dinner in her spacious
salon. Perfect size for a
family or couple looking for the room to comfortably host extended stays.
“Prelude”
sails like a dream and is a
bluewater greyhound. Her brand new
genoa and like new
mainsail keep her regularly in the high 7s to low 8s in easy air, and in moderate conditions, tapping 10 is a thrill. ALL new running
rigging keeps sail handling a breeze, and even
single handing this 47’er is relaxing. She’s setup and HONESTLY ready to go.
We’re selling as we’re building a
steel boat for higher latitudes and excited for some ice! Her competitive
price reflects her age, and while mechanically and structurally solid, she has the common cosmetic issues you’d expect - nothing crazy, she’s just not fresh off the production line.
