2sd stay for a storm jib on a lagoon ?!
Hi Lagoon owners, I just came across a 420 (or 421) with an additional stay for a storm jib, if the owner is on CF I would really like to hear from him, how did he make it. I would like to do the same on my L440, if anyone has any information to share ... cheers

Thank you Dave, nice setup ! but wrong title it's actually not a storm jib I am looking for but a sail that is about 50% of genoa. Maybe the english name is forestay sail, I am not sure.

Those inner fore stays are a real pain for tacking the genoa.

so about 10sqm. Certainly useful in some conditions.
But for ~20 sqm an inner forestay or removable stay, or something similar to a gennaker setup would be better.

Re: 2sd stay for a storm jib on a lagoon ?!
Yes I wonder about these jib issues sometimes too. Maybe rather than try to engineer a new deck and mast fitting use what is already there. I think some Catana 47's used this arrangement. They have two fixed furling stays one on the the fore beam and one to the pole (i.e. an outer stay vs an inner stay). You could put a bigger genoa on the outer stay and a flatter jib on the main beam furler (maybe a self tacker)

Re: 2sd stay for a storm jib on a lagoon ?!
The Lagoon 42 TPI has a removable inner stay specifically for a staysail/storm jib. The Solent headsail is not recommended if a second reef is required in main and the smaller jib on the inner stay is to be used. It attaches at the mast at the same height as the lower stays and at the bottom to same point as the forestay. Mine has a heavy duty hyfield lever for tensioning, but not sure if that was original setup.

Lagoon 42 TPI rigging plan showing the removable inner stay.

Thanks for sharing ! your setup seems to be the same as the L570 and maybe some other older Lagoon. Probably the easiest way to add an inner stay. But I believe we could get a more efficient sail plan with parallel stays like that L420 has. That's how race boats are rigged anyway.

Totally agree, unfortunately with the TPI setup it is either one headsail or the other, cannot have both. As the Solent sail is self tacking, it is not possible to tack the sail with the inner stay in place.
Haven’t been able to work out an alternate setup without loosing the self tacking headsail.

I think you could rig a removable inner stay for a staysail, which I think is what you want, made of some type of Spectra. Most of the time (>95%) it would be disconnected and stored on or near the mast. Would only need to hook it up when things got particularly sporty.

Really what I would like is something like this:
You can see the inner jib at the beginning and at ~50s. It is not on a stay. The stay is integrated in the sail. There's got to be a name for that.
But whatever the type of stay, I need an attachment point, hence the question to lagoon owners. Thanks anyway !

Im a mono but my code zero is set up like that on an endless furler.
http://www.facnor.com/uk/products/ge...ne/default.asp
The best thing is it can all be removed easily in just a few minutes and stored below in a sail bag.
Look at code zeros and Gennakers to see if something like that concept could work for you.
Better yet, call a good sailmaker?

Re: 2sd stay for a storm jib on a lagoon ?!
Setting and worse striking a free flying sail in strong winds is a daunting operation at best, and getting the luff tight enough to sail well to windward is difficult. IMO, not a good solution to the problem.
